Check out this site, the motor has no choice. Select twin cam once you enter the site.

First time I rode a touring bike I thought I was lugging everytime I slowed for a stop. I wasn't lugging...it was just the engine shaking the bike.

I can say the 08' seems to shake less then the previous years though.

my ultra seems to vibrate excessively while at idle. I've been told this is normal. does anyone out there have the same problem. the bike runs fine at cruising speeds, but at idle the entire bike shakes from end to end.
This appears to be your first post, so W E L C O M E to the Forum! To answer your question, there are any number of reasons why your Ultra appears to vibrate excessively. I know nothing about your bike, the year it was made, the type of motor you have or for that matter how familiar you are with HD's. So my assumption is that the bike is not new to you and you are familiar with it's operation and how it would run normally, which is why you feel the vibration has becomeexcessive.

As the others have pointed out the motor in your Ultra is not likely counter-balanced and also rubber mounted to the frame. While all V-Twin motors shake/vibrate more than other types, the combination of the two things I mentioned wouldcontribute to more vibration. So having said all that and understanding that vibration is normal, the only other thing I can add is to have your motor mounts checked out. This is a common problem on rubber mounted V-Twins and like most things they do wear out. I had them completely replaced on my '03 Ultra after only a couple of years. Granted they don't normally wear that fast, but it's not uncommon to have them replaced when you detect excessive vibration.

build up to 103" it goes away, more fuel stops the vibrations. my is smooth at idle now.

Whew, you had me worried there. I love the shake of my 06 RKC and was a little concerned about theupper engine mountthe MoCo has to reduce vibrations of the 96" motor. I like the way my RKC runs and I am about to pull the trigger on an 08 Ultra, if I thought it ran like a GW I wouldn't even bother.

Jeff

Sorry, did not mean to make lite of your problem, it is just that, that is one of the reasons why I love my HD.
