3M Film for Paint Protection?
Hi,
Did a search on the forums for this and seems that quite a applied this soon after bike purchase.
For those who have it, have you noticed any down sides? ie discoloration, dulling, etc now that it has been on a while?
Would you say it was worth it?
Web sites say it its great, but they want to sell it. Been looking here at it: Xpel
Just wondering.
Thanks,
Arrthur

RE: 3M Film for Paint Protection?
I had it installed on my Tundra last year and love it. All but the edges are transparent. Was going to buy the product and install myself but after seeing the guy do an istall at the dealer, I elected to pay to have it done. I love it on the truck. No rock chips or stuck on bugs. Wipes off easily and takes wax (zaino) very well. I am contemplating putting it on my bag lids.

There's a little trick to getting a great install of this stuff, or ANY other decal for that matter. Spray the area you want to install the decal to with something like Windex, leaving the area VERY wet. remove the backing from the decal, install it on the wet surface, position it where you want it and use a 2"X4" rubber (preferably) or plastic squeegee to work the Windex, air, and wrinkles out from under the decal, then let it dry thoroghly. I used this trick to install the 2'X4' General Grant and Lee decals on Mason Dixon's equipment for years.

There is a guy on the forum who does this professionally:

RE: 3M Film for Paint Protection?
I have the film on 2 cars and the front of my motorhome. The only downside is when you wax the vehicle you have to be careful not to get any near the edge of the film. The film is almost invisible, until you get a waxy or dirt buildup along the edge. Then it becomes pretty obvious.

I bought several rolls of 3M and installed it on my pickup, and on the fenders and bags on my bike. Only thing I see is a little wax build up on the edges that you have to wipe off with a little extra effort... Much better than rock chips IMO...
