Default 8" Dark Smoke Road Glide Windshield

I picked up a 8" Dark Smoke Road Glide windshield from one of the dealers on Ebay the other day. It came today and I installed it when I got home. Took about 20 mins. I like the look and it actually fits realwell in person. I would have liked the angle to better match the fairing angle though. That could have been accomplished by trimming the two rear corners up on the bottom edge and moving the mount holes up about 3/8". But that's OK.

I have one question...anyone else who has installed one of these, did your weather stripping under the bottom edge fit well? Mine will not stay on, or in place. I don't havethe weather strippinginstalled right now. I was thinking about picking up a second one at my dealership and installing them both permanently on both of my shields witha thin bead ofclear silicone down in the trough. Any thoughts?

That weatherstipping on the roadies has been plagueing riders all the time, lots of them have been separating and looking like chit! Your shield looks good though

That shield DOES look good !! It seems to me that the slight angle diff might work in your favor, pushing some wind up & over you.

I really do need to ride one (some distance). It seems (& according to all the RG owners on here) that the fixed fairing cuts thru the wind better. I'm sure there is more protection on an E/Glide w/lwrs. But I'm sure the batwing pushes more air and it affects the handling.

I wonder how it really compares to a regular wind shield like a Roadking or Heritage? I can tell you the main problem with those is, weather you have a little shorty on there or one the size of a barn door, most of the wind hitting you is coming from underneith.

Again' I'd have to ride one, but if (when) I have an RG, the 8" shield is what I would want.

Let us know how it works after a few miles w/it.

VERY cool !!

Thanks byersmtrco!

I can tell you that when I had my windshield on my Dyna, it took all the air off of my chest (which made it nice on long rides) but the updraft and the over draft had my head bobbing around like a damn bobblehead doll.

With the RG (either the stock or the 8") windshield, I don't really get any of that. Just a light chest and fairly "clean" head turbulance. I rode today a few blocks with the new 8" and my chest was still light and wind free. I did feal more air around my head, but it was not moving it around. It remained a somewhat clean air rush. I will report back later on how it handles on the road, and in the cold temps tomorrow morning. 3

I do like how it looks though...I keep going out in the garage to look at it.

I cured the weather stip issue with the chrome windshield trim.

New shield looks great. I hate that damn weather stip and well nut set-up. What a POS.

I don't understand why HD can't mold the well nuts into the weather strip itself. That would make the whole process so much easier.

I understand the chrome piece solves the problem, but it just looks a little bulky to me. Maybe if it was black.......

I put the 8" screen on my '05 Glide back in August. Looks Great!!! Bit more wind around top half of head but nothing I wasn't able to get used to fairly quickly. Used the chrome trim strip so the weatherstrip was not an issue. Won't go back to larger shield now. Did I mention it looks Great?

Saw a post a while back where someone sent the trim piece in for black powdercoat. Looks really nice. Damned if I could find the post by searching!!!![:@]

Here's a couple pics of a customer's RG I powder coated some black accents on. Hopefully this helps.
