Default Sundowner Breakdown

I had to take my Sundowner off of my RK. I really liked this seat but while I was washing the bike I noticed that the sides of the seat had rubbed the S**T out of the top of my side covers and the inside corners of my saddle bags.[:@] After 18000 miles I guess it makes sense(?) I just never thought about it. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one, it's a great seat but if you have one check the clearance on the side covers and saddle bag lids.

Vern,

I'm sorry you had to find this out the hard way.
The sides of the SD seats do hang down on to the side covers of FL models.
I always caution my customers to place a bit of clear Mac-Tac film on the painted areas, subject to abrasion.

Triple Z,
Thanks for the response. So I take it that this is normal? If so I may try it again. What about the corners of my saddle bags? When I found that I assumed (you know how that is,) that the seat was spread or something. I really like this seat so I hate not to use it.[&:]

Triple Z Where do I get Mac-Tac film? I have needed some clear anti abrasion tape in the past.

I have a SG with a sundowner seat. My saddle bags also were hitting the seat but my dealer simply moved the bags back a bit. Now they don't even come close to the seat. The bags are adjustable. You can do it yourself. It just a matter of reajusting the brackets that the bags hang on to.

The best self-adhesive vinyl film I found was from a shop that made decals for signs.
The shop I went to gave me a large scrap piece for free. It is made by the Avery Corp.

And regarding the SD seat rubbing on the edges of the saddlebag lids.....
There is a small bit of adjustment that can be made to the s/b brackets that may help avoid this.
However, on my particular bike, the saddle would still rub a little bit after making the adjustment.
Again, I used a thin strip of the vinyl film in that area.

I've had my SD seat on the bike for 3 years and 19K miles. I can't find any rubbing any where. I did have to adjust the saddlebags but the side covers are fine.
