Has any body ever taken off the chrome exhaust shields, espessially on the rear pipe. I was thinking of insulating it and putting it back on. It seems to be about 1/8th inch between the pipe and the shield. I found a ceramic sheet insulation material thats about 1/8" thick. Its good to about 2000>2300 deg. F.
Any thoughts on weather this would work or any drawback?

 

Why do it? the space is good for moving air and actually keeps the pipe cooler... If the shields are getting hot now ... As they do I doubt that insulating them would do any good!

 

I agree with Doug45601.

 

Tried it on mine had the opposite effect, made shields hotter, because of no air movement.

As strange as it sounds, Air is the best insulator. Wrapping the pipe will hold heat and can cause cracking. Don't go there, it could be bad...

 

As everyone of the replies as stated, not a good idea. Some things are manufactured a certain for a good reason.
