Default Low Top End 08 UC - SERT

I tried the Tuner forum, but no replies for several days now, so, I'll give it a shot here:

I bought an 08 SERT and had H-D do the install and the bike's top end was 90mph. I took it to thedealer I purchased it fromthat did the install on my 07 SG because it runs a lot better but they said they would have to charge me if any re-tuning needed to be done, issue #1. I thought it would only take about 15 minutes so wasn't worried about itbut it took 2 hours of riding and tweaking it to get it right according to them so there was 200.00 dropped. I think it might be that the installer had no model map. One dealer installed it and another dealer tweaked, I didn't think I should need to pay anything since it was Harley but I wasn't totally suprised. Anyway I loaded this software for 08 on my computer and the disk is exactly the same as for the 07. Why was H-D telling us we needed to wait for the 08 SERT's.What's the difference between an 08 tuner andan 07? Also, should I try and recoup my re-tuning money from my dealeror call the 1st dealer and complain.I'm not sure it's still right so now I'm thinking I should just get it dyno-ed somewhere here in the Dallas area. Any ideas and thoughts would be appreciated.Has anyone got a top end speed I can compare with, it will do 100 mph, not that I want to but I think everyone really wants to know what she'll do just once. In other words mine was struggling at 80 and 90 was boggin down, that sucked. I think the specs say they should do at least 110 which IMO is slow but it will do. My 07 SG with exact same setup will do 110 easy. V&H headers, V&H slip-ons, K&N Full Flow, SERT.

i did the install my self on both my '06 WG and my '07 UC. However, the UC had non-HD/SE air cleaner and slip-ons. I checked the plugs after installing a map that was close to what I had installed (since the SERT maps are only for HD items, you have to get something close). the plugs showed that I was still running real lean. I wanted to richen up the AFR for both performance and to help cool the engine. Ended up having the UC dyno'd, and had a custom map built during the process. (got a copy of it on a memory stick, in case i need it in the future).

don't know if your bike is plumb stock or not. My WG has SE parts on it, so there was a map with the SERT that worked great. If you used aftermarket parts (AC or slip-ons) IMHO you need to have it dyno'd with a custom map built.

Thanks, I don't how to map it myself but yes I have a K&H full flow, V&H headers and slipons, and then just the SERT. How did you learn to map it. I've read a bunch of posts and seen the graphs in the software but really would'nt know where to begin.

if you have the sert (black box, CD, cables) and a laptop, read the instructions on the CD and select one of the maps also on the CD. On my UC, I chose a map that was close to what i had, but the maps are only designed for HD parts (slip-ons, AC, cams, etc.). Since I was running a AN BS and V&H Ovals, i chose a map that had a SE AC and some SE slip-ons. this was close, but the bike was still running lean. Finally took the bike and the SERT black box (dongle) to the dealer and had him dyno it by modifying the map that I initially installed. I also had him give me a copy of the custom map for future use.

I can't wait ... Have an 08 Ultra on order and bought the twin-scan II from Daytona.. It will record the actual AFR as you ride and will suggest VE corrections for the SERT based on the AFR you want.... Cant wait to play with it

Thanks! I did get the tuner and the disk for both the 07SG and the 08UC but didn't get cables for either. That should have come with it too? I guess the dealer wants to keep helping me out.

Newer model SERT doesn't come with the cables. the serial cable can be bought at a computer supply store, but the one to the bike has to be bought from the dealer. more $ for MOCO.

Hey dbalogh,
If you're in Dallas look upDyno Differance, Eds number is 214.675.0051 he uses dyna link software but I think he can use your sert. He truly does a dyno tune not just on the machine and here's your print out. Made HUGE diff on my 08 Ultra.
Good luck and Ride safe

make sure that the sert that you have is part number 32107-01h, that is the one that you had to wait for on the 2008 year model, if you are using a G, then you do not have the right version, that only handled up to and through 2007..... check it, if it is the latter, take it to the dealer that you bought it at, trade it in and let them take the loss as it cannot be resold.... you will probably have to reflash you recm before you can reinstall SERT... this reflash will be a stock download...

Thanks guys, I sent you an email before I saw your post Opussum, thanks again.
Gene01, I checked the number and it's 32114-04A dated 09/06/07. I wonder if that's for an 07?
