I want to thank all of the good folks who took the time to post their opinions and advice about the '08 bikes. I feel confident, after reading all of your posts, that whatever faults may have existed in some of the '07's have been taken care of for '08. I will be ordering an '08 UC in white gold pearl next month for delivery in early spring, maybe with the laced wheels - still waffling on that. I decided against the ABS only because it's kinda pricey and that'll be one less thing to possibly give problems on an already super-complex machine.
The dealer that I'm working with has agreed to let me take it on a long test drive before taking delivery. If I'm not completely happy with it, then the deal's off with no hard feelings - his words. To me, that shows a lotta confidence on his part. He was very understanding of my concerns and doubts and admitted straight up thathis dealership had several unhappy '07 customers that they are still dealing with and that he was getting no cooperation whatsoever from the MOCO. Seems like a pretty honest guy to me!
Thanks again and ya'll ride safe & have a great Holiday season!

Sounds like you've come to an excellent decision. I think you're gonna love the '08 Ultra and the color scheme you've picked looks great. It's one of those "sleeper" color schemes - it doesn't necessarily grab you like some of the brighter colors until you see if a few times. Then one day, when the sun's setting after an great day's ride, you'll say, "Holy crap - that color looks awesome."
In terms of the ABS, that was an important consideration for ME. I tell you why:
1. I had one guy suddenly occupy my lane when I was riding on the I-15 and my daughter was on the back - being able to grab a handful of brakes without skidding and losing control made me realize the extra value of ABS
2. In 2- 3 years time, almost every Ultra in my view will have ABS. It might only be 20 - 25% of them now, but in a few years, I think the balance will turn. From a resale point of view, if you ever have to sell it, I think an Ultra with ABS will distinguish itself from EVERY Ultra made before 2008. It will give you a selling edge.
Just my humble opinion. I'd rather have the ABS and not need it than need it and not have it. John, it's completely your call, and either way you'll have an outstanding bike!
Enjoy and ride safe...

Hey Quint,
Ya made some excellent points there, bud. Maybe the additional $$$ for the ABS would be a good call. I've still got awhile to mull it over. I suppose that if I really didn't like the way it worked or felt, I could just disconnect the electrical connectors that power it, but it would still be there for a possible future owner.
Don't get me wrong - I'm not buying this bike just to turn around and sell it, but if the economy takes a huge dumpand I'm lookin' at living on the street as a new lifestyle, the expensive toys will be the first things that have to go!
I've found a lot of positivecomments aboutthe ABSon this and some other sites & blogs, along with a few negatives. My only real concern is the MOCO's track record for first-year equipment. As far back as I can remember, there have ALWAYS been problems, some fairly serious, with their new stuff in the first year. According to the sales guy I'm working with, the ABS that's been available on the Police bikes for the last few years worked pretty much flawlessly, but the system on the new civilian models is different - go figure.
I did go around the showroom with him and squeezed the front brake levers on different models and found a couple with ABS that went nearly all the way to the grip on the first squeeze. Ihafta tell ya, I didn't get that warm & fuzzy feeling when that happened!
I appreciateyour help and input.
