Changing mine out for a light sensor so I can tell if its day or night.

Only the '07's air temp gauges are accurate. All others suck.

Well, that was the high bench mark for awile. But, now the 08's are soooo accurate that they make the 07's look bad! [sm=escape.gif]

Or maybe a moisture sensor so I'll know if it's raining

I took my temp gauge out of the fairing and set it on the work bench. After 3 hours of exposure to the ambient air, it was just as accurate as it was while wired into the bike.

I never saw one that was accurate! I switched mine out for an oil temp gauge. Frankly, oil temp is a heck of a lot more important that whether it is hot or cold outside. I pretty much know that just by walking outside!

Or after being nice doesn't work.
You can send HD and your selling dealer certified letter asking them what is the allowable margin of error.
Then take it in and have it fixed........but they still won't fix it.
Hd will do NOTHING for you.
I'm waiting for responss now (final one under certified mail).
Then I can take them to small claims court.
Show invoices where work was performed but still not corrected.
show letters requesting the margin or error and a correct fix.
And a PHOTO of their inaccurate reading and a correct reading on another thermometer in same pic.
But don't name HD or dealer.
Use the CEO name for HD as respondent and the owner of the dealer.
They then have to personally appear in court as the summons is served on them personally.
will let you know what happens in about a month or whenever the hearing is scheduled.
I'm thinking they will settle out of court.
Try to get witnesses to go with you that have same problem on their bike.
It's time to band together and force HD to correct these malfunctions (numerous different ones) out of their pocket not ours.

If you thing you ambient air temperature gauge on your flht/c/cu/x is usually wrong your not alone. The good news is there is something you can do!! Your first step to resolving this issue is to take a ride to your local bank(yes, bank) and document the temp reading being displayed on the bank's sign. at this time document the reading of the temp gauge and note the descrepency. If it is greater than 7.5 degrees than repeat this step. repeat up to five times at five differant banks or until reading is less than 7.5 degrees different. After doing this process and you still belive you gauge is inaccurate you may contact HD customer services with your findings as well as your make/model/year/vin#/sexual orientation/mileage/religion and they may authorize replacement of gauge with a like new replacement. they will autho this in or out of warranty. If this seems like to much trouble just fork out the money for an oil temp gauge. at least it serves a purpose.
