Default RK MUFFLERS

I have an 06 FLHRI. Just bought an SE air kit,and SERT ,will have bike set
up on dyno, but I need some advise on mufflers. I like quiet mufflers, dealer
says the SE I mufflers aren't much louder than stock set up. Has anyone
heard these ? I probaly would have left the bike pure stock, but I'm having
some problems with the bike running to hot,and hope these changes might
help. I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks

The dealer in Wytheville Va. started up a RK Custom in the showroom with the SE's and they were not much louder than stock. They actually sounded pretty good. Someone on this site will be able to tell you, but I do believe SE make some louder mufflers also.

he is wrong about the se mufflers and they will get louder with age. if you want to stay quiet go with the touring mufflers. from an appearance point you can tell the difference by the type of screw that holds the end cap. the se will have a button headscrew ant the touring will have a flat flush mount screw. the newer se mufflers also have a script on the side that says screaming eagle, but if it is the older version the screw is the only way to tell the difference.

Quiet means restriction

Loud means less restriction

If you have to have quiet, you give up available horsepower to the rear wheel.

I have SE II's on my 05 RK. They can be loud. Just cruising they are pleasant. If I am riding two up, pulling a hill with luggage, they are real loud. The engine is producing MORE HORSEPOWER.

The right hand determines the noise level to a great extent.

All installations are compromises, enjoy your choices.

Roadie-I run a pair of tuneable Supertrapp slip-ons that are pretty quiet, yet do a decent job of being less restrictive. These mufflers use a number of 3" dia. internal disks that can be easily changed so you can tune more toward low/mid range torque and less racket or more open for more noise and more top end. On my 88" motor I run 12 discks on each side with a closed end disk. Probably the easiest thing is to check out Supertrapp's website and you can see what I mean.

Those would be my mufflers. I don't need to wear ear plugs with them, but they will set off car alarms quite well. Good deep sound too.

I have the SE slip-on's on my RK Cust. They are louder than stock for sure....how much is pretty relative. If you crack the throttle....she's barks pretty loud. But just normal excel and crusing.....sounds throaty but not loud enough to bug me. Its always hard to describe a sound to someone. Best advice is to find someone who has that setup and check it out first hand.
