Default Oil change

I am about to do my oil change in trans and motor.
I have the O rings. Now how do I go about changeing the oil and not have any oil leaking from drain plugs.
This is an honest question to you guys.It just seems that I can,t seem to
do this simple task without a bit of oil leaking.I have other bikes
and they don,t seem to have this problem
Thanks

I'll try to give you an honest answer . . .

Make sure you use new O-rings on the plugs. I like to put a little oil on them when I install them so they don't grab and tear on the way in. Go slow and make sure they seat correctly. I tore one the last time I did it because I didn't watch it closely. I don't think teflon sealer will help but I did notice that they put some on from the factory. Last thing, don't over tighten the plug.

Any one else. Am I on the right track or is there something I'm missing?

(of course, I expect a fair number of "funny" replies. I usually try to ignore them anyway)

just be sure to clean off/wipe down around the drain plugs first...get rid of any dirt before you take off the plugs so nothing gets into the exposed pans and then into the oil...then clean off the plugs and wipe down everything afterwards...not a big deal, good luck

Last thing, don't ever tighten the plug.

I'm assuming you meant "don't over-tighten the plug??

All sage advice. Drink a beer....relax......enjoy the time spent alone with something that only drips, and don't nag.......

You sound like an over tighten kind of guy. Use a Torque wrench (for you everything) and tighten to the specification for your make/model. If you overtighten you will strip the threads in the pan - don't ask me how I know, just trust me. I never tighten a bolt without one...

Harley's don't leak, they only mark their territory....

Actually, all of the above. You can use liquid teflon thread sealer if you have to, but be careful when using this AND trying to tighten to max torque.

Oil and Transmission drain plugs 14-21 ft-lbs. (19.0-28.5 Nm) from 07 Service Manual (I can't believe there would be a difference). Take your time, replace the o-rings... I also can't stand leaks (guess my time on a sub had an impact )
