Default Oil Temp Guage

I figured worse case if i remove it and strip it out i have to buy a new oil pan. Opinions please.
That's the hole I used for my oil temp guage. Go to NAPA auto parts and buy the fitting that goes into the pan. Can't remember the part number. Do a search and you'll find it. Works great!

Regione I installed a oil temp gauge and put sensor in the oil pan by removeing the
plug you are talking about. there is no way that could hurt anything. I dont know what
Idoit you were talking to at the dealer.

I have never used teflon and I have never had a leak. Could it be the 2002s were had better drain plugs?

I would never use Teflon tape anywhere in proximity to drive-train lubricants. You don't want fragments of tape floating around and clogging oil galleys.

The Napa adapter is #3220 x 6 x 2 (1/8F-3/8M). In removing the Allen plug, don't force it. It has threadlocker from the factory and may resist removal. If a modest amount of torque won't break it loose, heat it up a bit with a heat gun or hair drier to weaken the threadlocker.

I'm a first time Harley Davidson owner last year, and I do my own oil, fluid & lubrication changes. Never had a problem with a leak after changing fluids. Clean drain plug thoroughly and install new O-ring (all 3). I use a dab of teflon metal paste on plug threads. Tighten to spec using torque wrench. I've never had a problem, and so can you!
