RE: made mistake asking the dealer service dept a question today
1 most people who frequent this dealer don't keep a bike long enough to worry about the cam shoes
2 the service writers were less than bright about their job
3 Don't believe I'm going to be using this dealer for service of any kind
[sm=goodidea.gif] On all 3 counts !!! LOL !!!

One thing to consider is that Harleys are a passion for most of us, and it's just a job for the dealer employees. Most employees these days are just trying to get 8 hours pay for about 5 and half hours work and then go home.

As for having to ask - I always double check labor quotes because I hate to either under or over estimate labor costs.

I asked mine about the IDS and if there were any retroactive programs, considering it was now on the '08's. He said " It's really just for the passenger. It's not a big deal."
I had trouble understanding that one.

Guess I'm lucky other than my local dealer getting 5 hours to R&R a cam etc. Which is cutting the old pushrods and putting in the easy adjustable ones.
The statement about it just being a job is true across the industry today including up at the MOCO. There are a definite lack of enthusiasts employed in the industry today.
Also, at the risk of sounding like a complaining old fart it seems the younger generation (not just at the stealer) has an irritating tendency to answer legitimate questions with an "Idon't know" and no movement towards going to find out. Guess they haven't figured out that they'll never know if they don't get off their duffs and try to learn something.

I think YoDaddyKeith had it right. The dealers service departments have their jobs and a good Indy is there for the mods and the "more than service" work. Both have there place and fill a need.
Sure there are good and bad dealers as there are good and bad Indy shops. I found a lot guys on this board have much more knowledge and experience than a standard dealer "tech". Knowledge is power and that is one reason I am here.
