I am going to addthe largeluggage rack onto my 08 Electra Glide Classic. Have any of y'all had any cracks occurafter time. I jumped the fence fromgoldwings. Large star washers or 1" diameter washers for the rack to sit on were recommendedbecause cracksin the tupperware were not uncommon.

Of course, there is no comparison in the quality of the HD to the (hush) Japanese bike.

Secondly, I haven't had any problems, thus far. You shouldn't either.

 

the newer Harley tour pack is actually abs plastic instead of fiberglass that cracks, I first thought that was a weak downgrade on my 07 bikes , I now think that it is a cheaper way to build them, it holds up much better though.... I use the largest tour pack and usually have a large bag mounted on top NO damage.....

 

in fact, if you are looking for a tour pack rack, i have one for sale new in box... wasn't looking for a sale here, thought about it after I first posted....

Ex Winger, eh? BTDT - now got 12k+ on mah '07 UC an' lovin' it! Found the star washers on eBay an' installed 'em on mah TP. If ya git up ta Gruene HD, check w/the guys at the parts counter - ah gave 'em some in case folks needed 'em.....

 

Had one on my 02 Ultra from day one. Didn't use it much, but never had any problem with it. I owned the bike five years/59000 miles. No cracks.

 

If memory serves, the rack mounts on rubber washers anyway...and like was mentioned by gene01, mine too is ABS and quite flexible. I have had way too much weight mounted on it and no signs of cracks...

 

I would not worry too much about cracks. I came over from Gold Wings also and have seen quite a few of the cracks you mentioned. I have not encountered the problem with HD tour packs though. I think it is because the GW trunks aredouble wall and the HD tour packs are single wall construction. The ABS is thicker on the HD to give ittheridigidity that it needs. I have had a lot more weight on my HD rack than I ever put on my GW rack and have never had a problem. BTW I have noticed that GW'ers call them trunks and HD'ers call them tour packs. LOL
