High altitude operation

High altitude operation
Hi,
I own a 1997 Ultra Classis that is carburated. The bike is stock with no changes to the carburetor or pipes. We normally have the bike loaded and ride two up on long trips.
This summer we are planning on going to Billings, MT for the annual HOG ralley. Does anyone know if my bike will perform OK at high altitude without changing the jets in the carburetor. I know it will not perform well, sluggish and high fuel consumption, but will it be rideable without embarrassing us.
Any help would be appreciated.

RE: High altitude operation
I rode from South Carolina (850' elevation) to Utah, Wyoming, Montana and quite a few other areas of higher elevation last year on a 1995 FLHTC with a Carb. Had no problems. Plan on doing the trip later this year on my new 06 FLHTCUI. I hope it performs as well. My 95 bike had Rhinehart Pipes ,a hypercharger, crane cam & ignition module.

RE: High altitude operation
Sounds like a great trip.
Over the years I've ridden both EFI and carb'd HD's from near sea level Texas all over the the West and never had a problem with either. Going over the 11,000' passes in CO they both seem a little doggy, and I suppose the carb'd bikes will run a little rich at that point but certainly not enough to worry about.
