Road King Running Bad
i have a 97 fuel injected road king.. it runs great! never had a problem till today!
to start i washed it yesterday[>:]
after washing i parked it and rode it this afternoon for the first time since the wash.. it fired right up and ran fine but when i give it a quick gas it sputters... then it come thru and is fine.. like when i shift and release the clutch then twist the gas to go it spits and sputters for a second.. my brother was behind me and said when it sputtered it puffed a small amount of black smoke..
any ideas!

SOUNDS LIKE IT MAY BE RUNNING RICH. CHECK PLUGS. REPLACE IF THEY HAVE AT LEAST 10K MILES.DRAIN GAS TANK. FILL UP WITH FRESH PREMIUM AND TRY HARLEYS FUEL ADDITIVE.OF COURSE THE BLACK SMOKE INDICATES A RICH CONDITION AND MAY HAVE TO ADJUST INJECTION SYSTEM TO CORRECTHAVE DEALER DO A CHECK.

This happened to me once.
Take off the right rear saddle bag.
Remove the painted cover.
Underneath that cover you'll see the EFI module. There's a big harness clip that connects to the EFI.
You have water in that clip. Open it, get a blow dryer, and let'er rip!
You'll be good to go in a few minutes.

Great tip, Anthony! I havent had this problem yet, however, I can see me getting all worked up, not knowing what was going on with the smoke and sputtering!
