Default 103" flywheel in pre-07 and mpg - worth $$$??

I am looking for some real world info - if I add the stroker flywheel, what will my fuel mileage be for my 06 Street Glide? (I get between 38-43 depending on 2-up/touring/jack-rabbiting)

To make a long story long - I was all set to do HQ-0034g cams only in my stock 88" (i dont want to pull a motor down for no reason). While in there I was probably gonna do the Feuling cam plate, oil pump, and lifters and finish it off with V&H true duals - this shouldn't have impacted mpg.

However, Fri I noticed a drip that was probably inner primary seal, no big deal and still 3 months left on warranty. Took it in and they pulled the inner primary to find damage from me laying it down in Mar 06, 23K ago. The insurance company is going to have to pay this bill too. The bill will be for an inner primary case and new motor cases. So you can see my situation, labor is covered and for $700 the stroker flywheel can go in. The cam job will get done to use the labor and probably 95" or 98" jugs and pistons. Don't know about heads since they can be done later very easily.

Is the stoker flywheel worth it at this point for just the part $$$? Will I still get around 40 mpg (Head-Quarters and other claim their 95s and 98s actually get better like in the mid 40s)? I think the 07s/08s claim big mpg #s and they have the stroker flywheel.

Any info will be helpful? I will be calling Head-Quarters for questions to my new situation.

Thank you for your opinion but honestly I am not looking for what part I should use or shouldnt use or I would be better off with this or that. Personally, I do not want a stock HD 103" crate motor - I mean it looks like you took yours out and put in a 120".

What I want is what mpg people are getting who have 103'ed their 88" in a light bagger (measured without tour pack). I want these numbers to decide whether or not to buy the stroker flywheel, those are the 2 options on the table

-stroker with 95 or 98 jugs
-stock flywheel with 98 jugs

and it depends onthe mpg - i am not interested in the most HP/TQ I can possible buy,I want the best bang for my buck. i am trying to make lemonade here with the lemons that my bike will be in the shop for 2 months waiting on cases (2 months from the insurance check)

I have the 103 in my 06 EG Classic and I get about the same mileage that you do. Rode 1000 miles to CA and back this summer and got right around 42-44 on the freeway with just me and my tourpack. Depending on how much I twist the wick I'll get from upper 20's to low 40's. Hardly ever ride 2 up - so can't help you there.

Hope that helps some.

'08 Ultra 96" 54hwy/35city
'08 CVO 110" 53hwy/36city

Tuning and aggressive riding are the main factors in MPG, not displacement. How much do you want to spend and how much power do you really need? If you are ripping apart a motor, go big inch with a proven head/cam combo.

oh i think i miss read your response, sorry - you were saying go for the flywheel, not the crate again. If the mpg #s y'all are quoting can be trusted, it seems worth it.

If you decide to go with a 4.375" crank, BE SURE you get the S/E version (the more expensive one) that is made by Jims ~ NOT the cheap one that comes with the 07 / 08 bikes.

I would suggest either the HQ103 orHQ113 kits.

Properly tuned (and riden within reason) milage should be better than stock.

You're gonna come out nice on this one!

(113)

Did I hear something? 113

There it went again... 113

Anyone else hear that?

Glad you chimed in Phil, but I don't understand - both are listed as S/E. Are you saying that the $700 one is no good, if it comes stockin 07/08s would it not be equal to the stock 88 and handle a mild 103 or 107. I mean, if i was loaded with money, it would be the best of the best, however, I am "its only $500 more"ing my self into $5K in parts.

This is what I am looking at:

Feuling Cam Plate = $247
Feuling Oil Pump = $318
Feuling Lifters = $95
V&H = $288
HQ-0034g (cams and gears) = $700
HQ pushrods/covers = $178
HQ 98" = $2009
Stroker Flywheel = $575 (Zanotti)

Thats $4411 in just parts.

Any where to save $$ or something I dont really need, let me know

also - dont think i am really interested in 113 if it means boring the cases - money for power I dont need. I am happy for the most part with the stage 1 88 and certainly would be with a 98" - just trying to capitalize on an oppotunity to have a cool 100+ cu in motor

also - could save using SE cam plate and oil pump - are they any good?
