I have 3 of the SE Air Cleaners on my bikes and the K&N Cleaning kit works perfect. Between the 3 bikes I have used it 8 times and the filter looks like new when I am done.
They made a SE a/c filter that was cleanable, but not sure which color the band was, either blue or black. I, personally, went with a K & N element. Sure wish I had gone with the AN bs from the git go, but what's done is done.
The blue SE filter that was on my bike was washable.I ditched it for a K&N.
You would be better off swaping in a K&N because the SE filters could fall apart.
The SE air cleaner is washable, but the mechanics at my shop recommend that when it gets dirty to throw it away and replace it with a K&N. No point in wasting it and just throwing it away out of the box, but not a good enough filter to be worth cleaning. By the way, its the black ring filter on my bike....the blue one was a piece of crap (not my opinion, but that of my mechanic).
