Default tires

Have not decided if selling or keeping bike. If keeping I would like to upgrade wheels and tires. Anyone running Metzeler M88's on a Ultra? What is the best choice when tires need to be replaced? Thanks. Stephen in Az.

I'm running the M880's on my 04 RG and 99 Night Train. Took some saddle time to get used to them, but I'm glad I got rid of the Dunlops. Also have Avon Venom-X's on my Dyna. Between the Metz's and Avons, I do prefer the Avons. This is based on road feel and handling. IMHO.

Been running them for the past 15K miles on my '05. Night/day compared to the duncraps. No tracking of road grooves, excellent in the twistys, AOK in the rain. I'm on my second rear tire. First one lasted 8K miles and probably could have gotten a little more but picked up a drywall screw on a construction site. Front looks like it's still new.

I sold my gold wing to a close friend. After he put several thousand miles on it the Dunlops were ready for replacement. He went ( front and rear ) with ME880's. The bikehandled noticeably better. Was itjustthe new set of tires? I'm not sure. At 8k miles I replaced the rear tire on my ultra with another Dunlop but when it's time for both front and rear I will switch to Metzler 880s. The Dunlop was not worn out at 8k but I was heading out for a trip and did'nt want to take a chance.

I could be a minority. I had the Metzlers on a Road King Classic and changed to the stock Dunlops. I felt the Dunlops actually handled road grooves and damage better than the Metzlers. I now have an '08 Ultra with the stock Dunlops and am quite happy with them. Maybe other brands might be better for some conditions, but for overall riding over the last 1600 miles, the Dunlops have been just fine.
