Default Pros and Cons of WIRE WHEELS

I want to change the wheels on my 07 FLHR. I am considering either chrome RKC rims or a set of wire wheels from one of the big touring bikes.
I like the look of wire wheels better than the five spoke RKC wheels, but I have heard negitive reports about wire wheels on touring bikes.
I have wire wheels on the front of 2 of my Sportsers and have no problem with those other than you have to check the air pressure all the time.
Let me hear about your experiances with wire wheels on touring bikes and alsohow many miles did you ride your bike on wires.
Thank You Jeff

Biggest disadvantage in my mind is the need to run a tube. Makes on-the-road repairs enormously more complicated.

I've owned several motorcycles with them and never had any problems. I had a 72 FLH and my current FLHRC with wire wheels and can't really tell you if there was any difference in the ride and handling as compared with an 89 FLH that I owned that had solid rims. Same as you, I check tire pressure more frequently and always check spoke tension.
Yeah they're a P.I.T.A. to keep clean but I love the look, especially on those sunny days !

The new tubeless spoke rims should eliminate the roadside repair issue. The local dealer was talking them up because the look nice. However, coming from a high humidity area of the country I didn't like them on my Sporty or Springer because they suck to clean. Bought a solid Fatboy rear rim for my springer just to speed cleaning.

Get yourself a set of Fat Daddy 50 Radial Spokes and you can run them tubeless. Ridewright makes them for Hog Pro and you can save a good bit of cash.

Here's a link (they call them the "Big Fatty") http://www.hogpro.com/showsubcat2.ph...mp;subcatid=31
