I installed the in-line fuse directly in the hot wire that can as part of the cig lighter. To the other end I wired a terminal so that when I remove the battery bolt, I can put it through the terminal and then screw it back into the battery post. PeteM makes me think I can go with a 3 or 5 amp to start with instead of the 20 A.

The fuse is to protect the wire size not what is plugged into the lighter.Where did you mount it? I currently plug my Tenders directly on the Starter wire.
