What fluid is used, DOT 5? If so, there shouldn't be any additional maintenance except for maybe cleaning the sensor.

For cars that use DOT 3, 4, 4+, the fluid still absorbs moisture. This will effect the ABS when heated under load. This is why you should flush your brake fluid every couple years.

Someone asked what brake fluid... I had to buy some DOT 5 today and there is a warning on the bottle actually saying not to use with ABS ! Go figure !!

According to the '08 parts catalog the pads and calipers are the same on ABS or Non-ABS. I think your service writer is uninformed (to say the least). Ask him to show you the difference in part numbers.

[sm=huh.gif] Yeah, I think this guy is either very uninformed or full of crap. Have you owned any cars with ABS? If you have, you already know there aren't any special maintenace consideration except for bleeding the brakes. I've owned 6 different cars/trucks with ABS. Gone with aftermarket pads, rims, etc. ABS doesn't care about anything but tire skid.

......Was even told that anyone who brings the bike in for a wheel/tire change will have to go through a wheel line up and ABS recalibration which adds to the cost..............
I just changed the rear fender out in my '08 Ultra. I had to remove and replace the rear wheel. No different than without ABS.

yeah with the sensor in the bearings you would have to wonder what impact tire/wheel size would have??

Come on guys. ABS ISN'T new. It's just new to Harley. The service writer is full of BS. There are no cost or maintenance differences to amount to anything.

Stopped at the dealership today...
A couple Honda Dealers told me about the same thing when I was looking for a new Wing with ABS. Come to find out these dealers were out of ABS models and really wanted to move their current non-ABS stock.

Sometimes the marketing can get a bit out-of-hand with some dealers trying to sell bikes.
