The reason I ask is, if I go this summer, what precautions should I take.

I have an bagger. This forum has mentioned just taking off your hard bags and bringing them into the motel room with you.

Another thought I had was putting a cover on for overnight.

Does anoyone have and "MUST DOs" while traveling for security of our beloved chromed beauty?

 

I think taking off the bags is a bit much.I never had a problem but I park in well lit areas

 

ive been several times and use a disk lock,i always try and git bottom floor motels with doors on the outside and my greatest trick is i have an old gold wing bike cover that has big letters saying gold wing down both sides,but i do git some strange looks when i take it off the streetgide lol who would mess with a wing with all them hawgs around.

 

I was there this summer and didn't have any problems....we parked under the canopy in front of the hotel....of course we were up most of the night.....lol

I have alot of friends that have went to Sturgis along with myself
no one has ever had a theft.
it might depend on where you are planning on staying though.
we stay about 40 miles from Sturgis.

 

i dont think too many people are after stock bikes

 

Going to do my best to stay in a motel/hotel somewhere. Most likely near Rapid City.

Planning my trip now for Radpi, Cody, Yellowstone, Bearstooth. You know how it is...

Here in MN, this time over year is the trip planning, chrome/motor upgrades. It was 5 Friggin degrees this morning.

 

i ve been there 6 times never had or heard of any problems seen a few bikes get towed after being caught with drugs but no thefts

 

I stayed near Rapid City, SD when we went to sturgis this year. Didn't have any problems at all. Lots and lots of bikes out there. I always figure there are so many bikes like or better than mine that I should be ok. Still of course have the security with siren and pager, disk lock, and lock the ignition and bagsall the time.
