LOL, egor, and I suppose that's a rock chip in the front fender?

Our Ultra has been down once on each side. The guards did their job well, with no visible damage. I was impressed.

A friend, however, had his highway pegs mounted low, and when he dropped his, they hit first, twisted around and poked a hole in one of his lowers. When ours went down, the foot peg folded at the hinge, and caused no damage.

There was a thread a little while back about a guy wanting to take the engine guards off of his roadie. I was thinking at the time It's gonna be awful expensive if he drops it.

Yeah, and it buffed right out!!!
Short of the long - minivans fault, they bought a new paint set which is still in the box.
Rhino lined the bike after it got rebuilt with ebay mixnmatch sheetmetal.
Even with the engine guards, and the '03 & earlier saddle bags guards, a tip-over
can scratch the fairings and bags.

That's what I was thinking, but from the responses I'm reading it sounds like the guards usually protect the fairing and bags quite well.....

Dropped mine last year and the only thing it did was a small scratch on the engine guard and
a few small sctratches on the bottom of the right side bag.

Most drops only contact the guards, unless the bike has been lowered drastically.
Fairing damage comes then the bike "goes over" and instead of resting on the tires and crash bars, it rests on the fairing and crash bars.

Dropped my 0 3RG once. Fairing has a scratch in it as per the attached photo.
It dropped after hitting the side of a minevan at 50 or so, and I had to let go of
the handlebars and start flying. Thats when it dropped.
