ORIGINAL: Taterdog
This is what mine looked like. The left one was on the primary chain. The right one with the crack was on the secondary chain, hidden behind the cam plate. Did my job just in time!

RE: timing chain tensoiners
Changed mine @ 7,000 miles only because I was having BB & SE Cam installed anyway. There was some wear but not bad. This was on a 2005 Road King Classic.
How are the new hydraulic tensioners working? I think this was 2007 & up for Touring. I am dealing on a 2008 SG with the new design. The parts guy indicated that they are not subject to the failure problems. Anybody hear of failures with the hydro tensioners?

Taterdog, won't be a problem getting it back together if I can just get the time to do it. I work two jobs and am doing some body work for my boss on a Scout and I have a side job. I am hoping to make some time this Sat to get it done, will see how that works.

RE: timing chain tensoiners
The new 07- 08 bikes changed the cam plate, chain, position of the cam shoes. They don't hold as much tension on the chain as the older models. I've seen 26,000 on a 07 bike and no wear.
The older models wear cause of how the chain is made.
You are not problem free with gear drive, you can sheer a pin. What then ?
I've talked with Woods performance and they said unless yer building a race bike stay with the chains like on the newer bikes.
Even HD is building a cam plate to do a conversion. Andrews does a cam plate.
