ORIGINAL: ffb
who makes the maxxis ???
MAXXIS = Made in China,

They were called Chen-Shin, but to many of us MX'rs hated thier product, so now they are trying again under MAXXIS...

But us old 1970 Maico and Husky riders stick with Bridgestoneor Dunlops

Got 10k out of my first D402 rear, which is unacceptable. Ran 40 psi cold, used rear brake only when necessary, no undue stress. Older MT90's on my RK ran 14k 10 years ago, then down to 12k five years later. The MU85's are even worse although tread depth is greater (11/32" vs. 9/32"), so I assume they're using softer compounds. Can't tell any difference in handling, though, as the D402 was always rock-solid.

Just mounted a Dunlop Elite 3 on my spare rear wheel and will install it once this second D402 wears out. It's on schedule for replacement at about 10k, too. Can't deal with anything that would provide even lower mileage. E3's were developed for Gold Wings to address wear issues, and the reviews I've read on GW sites indicate it is a winner for performance and wear. Those on this forum who've used the E3 have given them good reports, too.

I just ordered a set of Elite 3 for my EG have heard nothing but good about them. Will say that I had a flat on the hwy at 85 mph and the Dunlap 402rear did what it was suppose to do stayed on the rim and got me and my wife (passenger) off the hwy safely

Switched out the Dunlops on all my bikes. I am running Metzler 880's on my 04 RG and 99 Night Train. Took a few mile to get used to the cornering, roll in is smooth and predictable. I have about 10,000 miles on the RG with no problems, as stated in other posts keep the psi correct.

I also have Avon Venom X's on my 04 Dyna FXDP Defender, prior cop bike. Now these tires stick to everything. Softer compound than the Metzlers (IMHO), but much better handling all around. About 1000 miles on these, my preference in the future.

Check out the tire manufacuters websites for additional.

I'm interested in the Michelin's but up to this point, the Dunlops have been pretty darn good to me. I hit the curves hard enough when I'm feeling my oats but not to the point of scraping floorboards. I don't detect any sliding at all. I do think they ride hard though, but I can accept that as a consequence of good tire wear. I usually get 11-12000 on the rear and about twice that on the front.[8D]

ME 880's are so much better in the rain than the stock dunlops and feel better everywhere. just doesn't make sense to put milage over performance on a motorcycle tire to me. give me the stickiest, best in the rain tire that will handle the load a 2 up harley needs...
