UC? I assume you mean the headsets, because the UC comes with the intercom. J&M builds the best headsets vs HD. they also have intercom systems, one of which i use on my WG. It works great. Have the J&M headsets which work well on both bikes.

I use the old fashion type - wife raps on the side of my helmet and I ignore her.

J&M beats out HD hands down on my HD Advaned Audio System/CD/Intercom. I had nothing but problems with my HD headsets, VOX sensitivity, popping with medium to high bass settings, pulling out of plug-in recepticles, etc. Sooner or later you are going to upgrade from the HD setup. I suggest you take a look at J&M Corporation Products. Enjoy your UC.

I am pleased with my J&M headset; design and construction better than the HD set.

what does J&M stand for? I've got to buy a second set up for the wife. Will this work with the HD one that came with the bike?

J&M is the name of the company http://www.jmcorp.com/

You buy the headsets from them (recommend you buy the premium ones), then the lower cords to fit your year of HD. they work with the existing HD intercom/radio/CB/

Yes, you can use a J&M set for the passenger with the stock HD for the rider.
