Default 08 Model Tuning

Having had my first HD since Sept (08 RKC) and after 4k miles I would like to free up the motor without too much hassle or expense - the heat issue does exist on hot days (I have the SE oil cooler installed and run synthetic) so improvement there would be nice.. I am thinking along the lines of a Power Commander (available in the coming weeks) and a KN filter. Anyone guide me as to the advantages or options... (especially you 07 owners with Commanders)
Thanks.

Default RE: 08 Model Tuning

There have been several posts on this forum concerning this, so I'll pass along what I'm going to do to my '08... probably this or next month.

1. Install SE Intake

2. SE race tuner aka SERT

3. Already have RUSH slip-on muffs, so that's done

4. Dyno tune

Many folks here have success with the PCIII. Personally, I like the idea of changing the ECM using the SERT rather than an "add on" box like the PCIII. I've conversed with several techs, both HD and Indy... all like the SERT the best.

Good luck.

I have an 07 103 stage II , after SERT it wan much more tolerable on the heat end.
I have the HD premium oil cooler , but am waiting till spring to put it on. part of the heat problem is due to the EPA cam timing which isn't helped much with the SE 255 I'm running although it does produce great torque ( 111 lbs ft) . Quite a few folks have also found relief with True Duals or 2 into 1's with Fat Cats being a favorite .

Due to PC units not being available yet I have opted for the fuel pack from vance and hines.

With slip on exhausts and a big filter from woods I can have the engine breath much more than with any of the SE pieces...I would recommend people check Woods out, Bob there is really helpful and willing to answer any questions. Once we get the PC unit then dyno tuning should prove it all worth while!

Check it out....

Looks like the site needs a little up date. New for 2003?

Heard of anyone using the products??

Just found this really interesting table of figures...

HD stock - 171CFM
Stage 1 Big Sucker = 200CFM
Stage 2 Big Sucker = 250CFM
Kuryakyn Twin Velocity = 270CFM
K&N E-3014 = 248 CFM RK=3009 kit
K&N E-3037 = 301 CFM RK=3910 kit
HD-0800 = 231 CFM SE replacement
Doherty Powerpacc = 287CFM
SE Air Cleaner = 287 CFM
Zippers = 321 CFM
Woods Carbs = 4 models 235CFM up to 340CFM
BC Overflow = 800+ CFM

Hope it helps!

I put a set of breathers in the heads of my 99 ultra last winter from Doherty Machine. I would get enough blowby to make a mess after 100 miles or so. They completely stopped the oil blow by at the intake. They were very well made and easy to install. I had no blowby for 16000 miles this year. I traded it for a 08 ultra this fall so now someone else will enjoy the clean right side of that bike.

There is an excellent article on this very subject on nightrider.com and according to them all of Harleys bandaids don't get the job done, READ it I believe he has a good grasp of the situation
