Default Wrap Around light assembly

Recently had a deal drop in my lap of a ultra tour pac with everything on it for to cheap to pass up, its in great shape, and im currently getting it ready for the painters to color match, its going on a 06 road glide, pac is from a 02 ultra. according to the manual i have the last cpl of step in removing the wrap around lights is to remove the 2 metal clips and the chalking. ok im being paranoid and not wanting to crack or damage the pac, for those thatr have done this, did you just scrape the chaulking off ?? or is there a chemical that will dissolve it but not hurt the fiberglass ?? and on the metal clips do they come out of the houseing or are they just spring clips ??

thanks all

TK: I removed the Ultra light barto have the pack painted. Yes, remove the clips; this releases the light assemblies from the bar. There are also two screws in the center of the bar, and a screw at each end and on each side IIRC. I peeled most of the caulking off and used a narrow blade putty knife also.

If you are going with a solid color TP with the repaint, or at least one where the two-tone or stripes do not meet the plastic light bar on the sides, have the painter shoot the plastic light bar also to color match it to the tour pak. I did this and it turned out great with the HD chrome kit that wraps around the lights and fills the center at the back of the light bar. I'll try to post a pic later today.

Yes, just scrape off the caulking. I used silicon caulk when I reinstalled the light bar.

This is a pic of the light bar painted to match the tour pak and chrome TP light bar trim:

Harleypingman - That is the kind of attention to detail that really sets a bike apart. You have one of the cleanest looking baggers I have ever seen.

Harleypingman : thanks for the assist and tghanks for the idea i was going to have the painter do the whole pac in silver with maybe a small black pinstripe, and your idea would fit the scheme well, and i gotta agree with Big your ultra is very slick, and im a just seeing them or did you remove the antenna and go with a hidden ???

TK: I use a powered antenna inside the fairing. The box is an Ultra TP I purchased on Ebay with the holes for the speaker pods filled in. The bike is an '04 FLHTPI (police model EG) that was the personal bike of a LEO that he used for a year riding motorcycle escort for funerals and such. I've owned it for nearly 3 years.

I didn't bother to remove the lenses in the light bar; the painter just masked them prior to painting. I suggested the HD chrome kit because: (1)without it the "HD" script in the light bar would be a challenge to mask; the kit has a self-adhesive plate with "HD" script (and they are available as a seperate purchase item; and, (2) the chrome kit parts that wraparound the red tailight lenses allow a less than perfect masking job since they cover a small portion of the edges of the lenses.

A color-matched light bar in silver would be a very big improvement over the black plastic against the silver paint of the tour pak IMO. If you want a black pinstripe, consider having it lower than the light bar and/or the lid.

Post pics when you can.
