I've read a lot here about the PCIII USB and also some posts about Jamie and FuelMotoUsa.com

I'm fixing to to install mine onmy stock 07 RKC,but I have some questionsfirst....and I also have a comment or two about fuelmotosa.com

First my comments about service from Jamie and his staff at FuelMoto.com:

I ordered my unit 3 days ago and it just arrived, so that's really rapid responce. HOWEVER, it arrived without the special USB cable in the box. I thought to inquire if it included the cable when I phoned in my order. The sales agent assured me it did include the cable, but of course there was no cable in the box.....Thankfully I have one that fits my Razr phone that should work. The parts list and instructions state USB cable is included in box....HUMMMM-it ain't there.

So I just now called FuelMotoUsa.com and they claim it should be included and insisted they never open the box, they simply plug in to upload the requested map thru opening in package.....Well, they were correct there-the package was factory sealed, but missing the cable.

If you recall, a recent poster here complained that his PCIII USB that he ordered from FuelMotoUsa.com for his 07 was factory sealed but missing the 02 eliminators.......

It sounds like DynoJet has QA issues in their packaging dept, huh?

The folks at FuelMotoUsa assured me they would rush ship me the correct cable, so I got no problem with them.

It sounds like Jamies staff needs to start opening the factory package and checking all is there and is infact as ordered.

Gotta stop to eat, but will follow up with my installation questions.

 

Couple of points. I believe that the "missing" 02 eliminators that you referred to were not actually missing, but the wrong part number PCIII was shipped. And there is nothing "special" about the USB cable (as you've already found)....it's not proprietary to the unit, it's a typical USB cable that can be (but, of course, you shouldn't have to) purchased locally.

 

Well yeah it is kinda special in that you can't get one at Wally World....It's different than one you would use for a printer or many other things around the house. The downstream end is really tiny-not too common.

....Anyway....Back to the subject questions:
I've read here NOT to update firmware while on 9 volt battery. And also to make certain to zero throttle first thing.....Thanks for those pointers.........Is there ANYthing else I need to watch for before I commence install? I plan to wheel it into the plant tonight while at work and install it. I'll tote the laptop and tools along.....I just wanna make sure I can drive it home in the morning

Take along a few zip ties to tie back the 02 sensor tails, & allow yourself about 15 minutes of your lunch break to do the work. As for the zero throttle procedure, if I remember correctly it's best done with the motor hot. I didn't do mine till after I rode it the first time. Only a few % off, & it didn't hurt a thing so if you don't have time at work to warm the bike you could probably do that when you get home.

 

well, thats not entirely correct. the usb cable is easily found at walmart. it is a 5 pin mini. but you're right, though it is not the same as the one for the printer.

also, when updating the firmware, you have the procedure backwards. do not use the ignition, use a fresh 9v battery. (to make sure it has enough juice and doesn't die mid process)

after installation, get the bike warm, and then do the zero throttle, that setting is important. it may run ok if you don't, but you could be way off on the map then. you can wait to do the 100%, but it only takes a second to do that too so why not?

 

Yes you can, for just a couple of bux. It's a completely standard USB <--> mini-USB cable.

In the following image, they are, left-to-right, micro USB plug, mini USB plug, B-type plug, A-type receptacle, A-type plug.



That is exactly opposite of the case. You do not want to update the firmware while the ignition is on (unless the PC is electrically detached from the bike). You want to make sure it's a fresh 9VDC battery, too. They won't last 20 minutes on the PC-III.

You said your bike is "stock," which if by that you mean both stock airbox and stock (complete) exhaust and you're talking about your 2007 RKC, then you should be good to go with the TPS synchronization. If, however, you've got aftermarket mufflers of any type on, you'll really need to put the stock ones back on with the PC-III bypassed (running with the O2 sensors online) to reset your Adaptive Fuel Value (fueling VE factor) for your location, or the canned PC-III map won't be quite right. If you're going to dyno-tune it then it doesn't matter.

.......I decided to do the install before I went to work, and I'm done! I had the forum up on my laptop while I did it and just flipped back n forth tween PC software window and the forum...It was like you guys were watching over my shoulder.

The Razr phone cable I had worked great!......I first got the bike good and warm/hot, then installed the PCIII, then the 02 eliminators, then fired it up and reset the throttle both a zero and wide open. But before I reset throttle I noticed it was all over the place in the map page....First it would read 5, then 25, then 100%, then fall back to 25 or 5.....Once I zeroed the throttle it was rock steady at 0%......

For future ref, here is a simple step by step I used:

-Start bike and get truley warmed up

-Shut off engine

-Install 02 sensor eliminators and use supplied tie-wraps to anchor unusedsensor wires away from hot surfaces(2 minutes)

-Install PCIII as per instructions. Locate the module as shownand apply tie-wraps as also shown in instructions (4 minutes)

-Hook up laptop via mini USB cable(hopefully yours will be in the box) And fire up software

-Start engine and allow to idle till back at running temp

-Observe computer and see if your PCIII serial number shows up on map page, and the map page should indicate which map is loaded (Supplied by Jamie)and also that the sensors are eliminated, if it does, you are good to go. You should also see a lited green led on PCIII.

-Observe throttle position indication on map page....trust me, it will not read zero.

-to set throttle position, hit power 'commander tools', then hit'set throttle position', then hit 'reset' button in window that pops up......once you hit 'reset', crank throttle wide open for just a moment, then hit 'ok' button.....at this point the throttle position on main page should be rock steady at zero.....test it by observing main map page and green leds on PCIII as you rap throttle a few quick times.....

-turn off computer and remove USB cable

-insert suppliedwaterproof plugs into unused PCIII cable connections

That's it! You are done! From there you can drive it and begin to tweek it, but you can always recall the stored map Jamie shipped it with.

Later I'll check my firmware version and see if it is up to date. If it isn't I'll buy a fresh 9 volt battery and update it (I bet you guys thought I missed your correction to my above post)

That's it guys...A painless 20 minute installif you don't rush it.

I'm very pleased overall with the whole ordeal from ordering, shipping, install and support by Dynojet and FuelMotoUsa.com......Oh, And I fersure THANK you folks here.

I'll let you know how it drives tomorrow.

 

Yes, the bike is 100% stock at the moment.....It has 600 miles on it, so she's had time to learn and establish a baseline.

The reason I installed the PCIII before any other mods was to have that stock baseline from the get-go. At this point I have a stock machine with 02 sensors eliminated. That fact and the map Jamie supply is certain to richen her up and cool her down some. I plan for Rinehart true duals and the K n N filter kit next month(this months budget is shot)

 

I just did the update today and it made a world of difference. No more ping under hard throttle. I wish I would of done this weeks ago.[:@]

 

Well, thanks for the info......I guess I'll do it first thing after I get off work in AM.....I'm supposed to be sleeping now.

Nice thing about where I work is I lock the doors and set the perimiter alarm and I'm safe from ANY interruptions for the next 8 hours......You sure can polish a bike in 8 hours!
