Default Price of 1996 Electiglide Classic?

My brother-in-law has a 1996 Electriglide Classic w/fuel injection, this bike has 40,000 miles on it and was well taken care of. Any idea how much it is worth? I am thinking of buying this bike, anything I should know about buying a bike this old and with this many miles? Been riding for 10 years but this will be my first HOG.
Any tips will be helpful...

I've got a '96 Ultra with some performance tweeks that would probably ask around 12K and hope to get 10.5K. Book is going to way down around 6 to 6.5. 9K is probably pretty close.

Liljoe,

Just for comparison. I picked up a 96 Ultra-Classic, brand new crate EVO motor <300 milesand the balance of the bike in very good condition. $10k.

Classic model, I would cut price by $750-$1000, brother-in-law discount s/b at least 10%.

Straight from Kelly Blue Book:

1996 Harley-Davidson FLHTC Classic 2-Cylinder
4-Stroke
1340cc
Suggested Retail Value $10950* The Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value is representative of dealers' asking prices and is the starting point for negotiation between a consumer and a dealer. This Suggested Retail Value assumes that the unit has been fully reconditioned and is in excellent condition. Mileage/condition and additional equipment may have a substantial impact on the value shown above. This value also takes into account the dealers' profit, costs for advertising, sales commissions and other costs of doing business. The final sale price will likely be less depending on the unit's actual condition, popularity, type of warranty offered and local market conditions.

*Price Includes: w/Stereo w/Cassette & CB

Kelly blue book is a joke these days of over abundance of used bikes, yes every dealer would love to get that price but its way off base in todays market.

Thanks for the replies, thought it was worth around 9,000 but wanted some input from HD veterans. Thanks again!

He who blinks first loses. Let him tell you what he wants and that will tell you what he thinks of you as a brother-in-law. Good luck!!!
