You can buy V-Twin at Walmart. It's like 5 or 6 bucks a quart - not worth not spending the diff, but based on the chart, I'd use the Mobil 1 auto if I needed. I've been told the V-Twin engineered to handle a bit more temperature...

Mike Bruno's Bayou Country Harley Davidson in Houma, LA. I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw it on the shelf, out in front of the parts counter at the local HD dealer. Says a lot for Mobil 1 V-Twin and for Bruno's for selling it!

A friend of mine is a mechanic and he has a saying when it comes to oil. "Oil will only break down once and I never let my oil breakdown". So keeping that in mind I use v twin and go about 5k between changes, If I use any other synth I will go 3-4 k depending on what I use. My sister used to be a chemist for Castrol and she said that the motorcycles oils are made to run hotter and not to breakdown as fast. But in a pinch if you need to change your oil and cant get a compatable grade use what you can get but change it sooner than you normally would, and don't let it breakdown.

I would guess that most (not all )here have been operating and maintaining motor vehicles for many years. I wonder if anybody here has ever seen a verified oil related failure from other than lack of (oil)supply.

But what defines a "motorcycle oil"? I have seen some comments that any oil with a weight ofover 40(such as 20W-50 or 15W-50) is "expected" to be run in an air-cooled system (aka. motorcycle).

Ah tend to agree in that most of the "m/c" oils jest charge more fer the picture - but ah WILL say ta check the oil specs in yer owners' manual an' make SURE that any oil ya choose meets or exceeds those specs. Buddy's Deluxe - changed the oil in it last night, it says that if ya can't git HD oil, ta use a DIESEL rated oil meetin' certain ASE grades - so jest check it afore ya do it!

If you think that Castrol VTwin fossil-based oil stocks are made to run hotter and not breakdown as fast as a synthetic automobile oil (Mobil1 15:50) in a motorcycle, there's a nice old drawbridge in my hometown I'd like to sell you. Otherwise, this organic chemist recommends Mobil1 15:50 at Wal-Mart, currently $ 21.95 for 5 quarts.

I couldn't find it at the local Walmarts in the area either, until I found out where they hide it. It is not in the auto oil secton. Look in the motorcycle section. Yep, they have one, about 4 shelves tall and 5 ft wide. Sell gloves, some filters, and a few other items, local WW keeps it on the top shelf. Near the auto section.
