Default Idle problem

Got 14,000 on my 07 Ultra Classic, love the machine. Before I take it in to HD and pay a bundle for something simple I will as you folks for advise.

After riding for a while than coming to a stop sign the bike will idle slow or dye. I'm assuming I need to change the plugs, if so can I use the factory preset plugs ?

Hope I was clear enough for you folks to understand what I'm asking.

I have heard that the slow or rough idle, after the bike being warmed up was. The computer shuting down the rear cylinder because of running to hot or to lean. I'm not sure if this is true, but I was told that before. I'm sure these guy's here can either shoot down this thought or verify it.

When bike warms up to normal operating temp the ECM will shut the spark off on the rear cylinder (at idle) and slow your idle speed in hope of cooling the bike down. If you don't want that feature the dealer has a flash or two that will stop the bike from doing that. Also if your 07 runs hot be sure to tell them that too. There is another flash that will richen up the motor to keep it from running so hot.

Reksul....

Will that cause a Rough Idle? I have an 08 and have never noticed a rough Idle on mine. I assume mine shuts off the rear cylinder also?

That being said I was just throwing out a thought to his problem. Was I actually on the right track??

If you sat at the stop sighn for ten minutes maybe, but still should not stall. I got the heat download and never did anything but probably never gave it a chance and then came stage I.
beforeyou spend to much time on it I would bring itin cause still under warr. and let them figure it out.In the meantime check.
bad gas, loose plug wires, loose ground. might be fine when moving(less vibs).
good luck

I have a buddy that is a service manager for a local dealer... bought an 07 Dyna low for Wifey. I noticed the rough idle when I was riding it playing around while the weather here was 100*. Came to a red light and thought it was going to stall. Kept it reved and took it home thinking it had issues. I made a call to my buddy who explained the process on the ECM (computer module). Said there were a few different choices from HD for reflashing to stop this low-rough idle)

Soooo... if that is what you are experiancing then the answer would be yes.

I had the flash to richen and stop the rear cylinder shut down... have been out after that in 102* and no more issue.

There is also no charge for the flash so why not?

Cheers
