JC650 - it's 50 km over the limit that gets you in deep. The reason for the law was the amount of deaths due to street racing. A lot of innocent lives lost by mostly boy racers in the ricers. The law also allows for the same penalties for having nitrous on the vehicle iffound during a stop.
Personally - I like it - the major hwys tool along good at .about 130 ks per hour ( 82 miles an hour). How much faster do you want to go??? And now it's alot safer with some of the nutbars walking. The laws been in effect for about a month - already 1000 plus off the road...

My neiboorhood is ripe with guns-drug and mayhem and no police, there to busy pulling speeders over...........

Just out of curiosity.....

How do the speeding laws in CANADA affect YOUR crime rate?

In myCanadian city,we have had more fatalities for speed and alcohol related collisions than we have homicides for this year. While the gangbangers, drugs and guns are a threat, so are the dumb a** drivers/riders who think that the public roadway is their personal race track. Many people fail to look at it that way. Ontarios law is long over due and hopefully other provinces and stateswill follow suite. Just my 2 cents.

Since I drive on the QEW from time to time visiting the inlaws, I must say it is about time. I drive around 70mph in a 100kph(62.5mph) on the QEW, and I get passed like I am standing still. What's worse is whn I'm on the bike and these offenders just cut you off like it was notjhing. By watching them swerve, I feel they cannot contraol their vechiile at a high rate of speed. It is an epidemic, not just for "street racers", but for the impaient communters.

A Representative Government
The Right to Possess Firearms
Reasonable Fines for Driving Over The Speed Limit

Is there anything a Canadian won't give up without a fight?

Just a heads up if you are planning a trip to Canada. Ontario now has the absolute harshest speeding law in North America. Talk about taking the fun out of a highway run. Police are cracking down hard & government coffers are quickly being filled. Speeders are even being targeted from the air.

*Instant vehicle impoundment for 7 days (at drivers cost), **automatic one week driver's license suspension,***minimum fine $2,000 up to $10,000 (discretion of the court) for driving 30 MPH+ over the posted speed limit.

I went through there this summer. Speed limit was 100 kph (about 62 mph). I traveled at 80 mph like I normally do and had no issues. Cagers were also going the same speed. I tend to ride with traffic. I don't want to be the slowest or fastest on the road. Unless I need to pass quickly!

USA might as well just take over Canada. No exhange rate, no border, lower taxes, shipping rates would be fair & there would be more gun shops!
