I believe it is Florida that is proposing a law for the confiscation of vehiclesfor a certain MPH over the speed limit. I tried to find a link but didn't, but I know I read it somewhere.

Edit: Shoot, it was right here on the forum.

We just went into Canada recently and the biggest problem I had is remembering that the speedo is MPH not Km/hr. I would think the moco would put both on.

minimum fine $2,000 up to $10,000 (discretion of the court) for driving 30 MPH+ over the posted speed limit.

Damn and the exchange rate sucks now!

Passing an idiot, rushing to the hospital or just plain fun. Spun my Mustang out at 120 mph once, it was actually fun. Done 150 mph on a bike in my younger days. Wish I had that bike when a trucker ran me off the road, could have caught up to him and got his license plate #.

Just cancelled my trip to Ontario

In just 2 hours I can be in Germany on the Autobahn
no speedlimits [8D]
Many Americans go to Germany each year to rent
a Porsche and try it out on the Autobahn.
Speed in itself doesn't kill, drivers without a brain do.
IMO a driver playing with his or her cellphone and drinking
or eating behind the wheel is a lot more dangerous
than an experienced and concentrated driver speeding.
To avoid any misunderstanding: I'm not saying speeding is OK, but
the number of people killed on the Autobahn is a lot less
than in many other countries with strict laws on speeding.

It wont matter a tinkers dam what the speed limit is and the files that are hurled against the offender.
If they can afford a car or a bike that is capable of doing sustainabletriple digit speeds in under 20 seconds they surely will be able to afford the fines and impoundments.
Where I live these new Canadians buy $100K cars and insure them to the max, when they get into an accident they go shopping for a new BMW or M Benz before they have even gotten the first wreck to the body shop....
Point is, as the 70's show intro said " If You Can't Do The Time- Don't Do The Crime " Not to mention I could really care less if anyone stayed home because they think our traffic laws suck !
And they DO Suck !

So dous alla favour ... cause me, my family and theotherpeople that I love are out there too ... PLEASE DON'TDRIVE LIKE A MANIAC TOSATISFY YOURGREED FOR SPEED.
And you never drove above the speed limit ever?!!!!!!!!?

I think the point he was trying to express is that the heftyfines and impounding of the vehicleare extremely rediculous. If you get caught speeding by the po po you get what you get nominal fines and possibly suspensionthat's all.
Certainly I have driven over the speed limit ... I'm not going to deny that. But, I'm talking maybe 10 over .... 10 over is pretty much the allowable 'overage'.I don't like to go anymore than that, because if I do get a ticket for more than that, my insurance skyrockets...and will stay that way for 3-5 yrs.

We have often driven by speed traps and they do nothing about that, at 10 over. Although they CAN pull us over, they most often don't. They are looking for the complete morons out there that have the increased potential to really hurt themselves or someone else. This whole conversation started about driving 30 (or more) over...We're talking excessive speeds...Not just a few miles per hour over.

I have driven many hwys...and one of the things that sets Ontario (especially Northern Western)apart from lot of others is our winding hwys with very sharp curves, the abundance of wildlife, bad shoulders, too few passing lanesand rock cuts that are literally only a matter of feet away from the traveled surface of the highway. Not a lot of room for error.

I have oftenheard the hwy betweenthe Manitoba borderand Thunder-bay be referred to the "Killer" hwy due to the number of fatalities. Excessive speeding is often the primary cause.

We didn't always have these hefty fines and deterrents like we do now. We had your normal fines for speeding pretty much like anyplace else.Due tothe increasedpopulation that travels that hwy, and the always increasing statistics of not just accidents ... but fatal accidents...the Ontario Gov't wanted to increase a deterrent to help reduce the number of accidents. Whether it's working or not ... I have to honestly say, I don't know. Still hear of very serious accidents on that stretch on a regular basis. Most often involving heavy transport trucks or wildlife...and of course the obvious ... excessive speeding.

I don't even want to mention what happens during the winter months! Pffffttt! That's a whole thread in itself.

"Instant vehicle impoundment for 7 days (at drivers cost), **automatic one week driver's license suspension,***minimum fine $2,000 up to $10,000 (discretion of the court) for driving 30 MPH+ over the posted speed limit."

I have no problem with a law that is for over 30 MPH over the posted limit. If you are driving 30 MPH over the speed limit, I would just as soon that you are removed from the road, before you permanently remove me or my friends and family from the face of the earth. Just my 2 cents worth.

And yes I do drive 5- 10 over the limit at times. But come on, are you really upset that they are trying to stop people from driving 30 plus over the limit.
