Default What engine oil to use during break-in

I'm getting ready to change the engine oil at 500 miles and wondered what oil to use. No synthetics for right now. Opinions please

Why not synthetics? I went with AMSOIL at 600 miles and now have 8500 miles on my RG and it's great. No leaks, no burning, no overheating. It's your choice, but I say just do it

How's your summer been Harris?

My personal choice was to change the oil with standard oil at 500 miles.
I then let the dealer do the 1000 mile with standard oil.
I then changed the oil at 2000 miles with standard oil.
At 3000 miles , I changed over to Amsoil 20w50 and did my 5000 service as scheduled , and will change every 4000 miles from now on.
I'm sure that standard oil would be OK , but I prefer full synthetic after 3000 miles on my ride.

Summer has been good Spike. Motorcycle trips from home in Virginia to Linconia, Americade, Arkansa, Tenn, Chicago to a Cubs game and up and down the east coast. Sold the VTX to a guy in Georgia. He called every day for nearly two weeks to rant about what a great bike it was. Poured another ton of money in to my 02 RKC. Then bought this SG. Interestingly enough I still get 20% off from accessories from my Honda dealer. Went there Monday to buy 3 new helmets and your name came up. I was talking to the sales manager telling him what a disappointment the VTX "tourer" was. I mentioned that you had said Honda offered nothing in the touring class (other than the Goldwing) and that you had gone HD. I think that is somewhat like you put it in the VTX forum. Anyway I told him I agreed with you, hence I now own 2 Harley's where I used to own 2 VTX. Next summer is planned. Grand Canyon to Utah and Nova Scotia for the third time. I love that place.

I Changed over to AMSOIL in all 3 @ 500 miles... Runs Cooler - Easier Shifting - Less noise...

I use Amsoil also in my RKC and will be switching over at the 1000 mile mark. I want to use conventional oil as I don't want to waste the Amsoil after just 500 miles.

Put Synthetic in it now. Dont beleive the old wives tales. So many engines come from the factory with synthetic.

I just changed to Amsoil at 1000 mile service. Running 20/50 in engine, 75/90 in trans, and stayed with HD formula+ in the primary.

I don't see any reason to wait. Almost everything I read supports that. I know that HD uses syn from the factory in some of their bikes. Makes me wonder why they don't run it in all their bikes????
Steve
BTW, ordered Amsoil online from the corp. site and had it on my doostep the next day. Wow!

Having the oil at my door is worth paying a little extra for to me. Love that Amsoil. Let dealer do 1k with syn3 and changing to Amsoil in 500miles. useing syn3 as a rinse more or less. then all my wheels will have it.
