SuperTrapp slipons. My opinion

RE: SuperTrapp slipons. My opinion
Pertient information, Supertrapp made the Screamn' Eagle (2 piece/off road) Performance Touring Mufflers for Harley and they discontinued selling them in 07 due to EPA regulations; however the Supertrapp S E Touring muffler is the same muffler as the Screamn' Eagle, only difference is the logo.

I've got the older harley 65115's and love them. I had Rinehart TD's on before. The sound is much better and I noticed a slight increase in bottom end torque with the 65115's. Picked them up for a steal at a dealer sale... Something like $200 + $10 each for the endcaps...

RE: SuperTrapp slipons. My opinion
I've only put mufflers on my bike. After the 1000 service I will put on an AC and SERT at a minimum. Maybe 103. But I want to put some miles on this engine as is first to see how I really feel about it. Rode my 02 RCK with BB and cams for the first time since I got the new SG. There is no question as to which bike is more powerful. Light twist on the throttle and the 02 puts you back in the seat, so to speak. Bkpa, I think you will like them. Let us know, please.

I'm not sure which SuperTrapp slipons I've got (my dad gave them to me cuz he was experimenting with mufflers and had these as a spare), but I really like them. The tone is excellent and not too loud.
PS: Where can I get the "fishtail" tips (best price)?

I had the Ovals on my '03 and did not like the sound at all, too loud and not a deep rumble, replaced them with the Supertrapp SE's and couldn't be happier.

How loud would the super trapp's be compared to the V&H ovals? I'am looking for some mufflers for my new road glide and would like to keep it fairly quiet, but free enough breathing for some motor work.

Here are some numbers for ya' -- YMMV.
- On my 06 RK Custom, the measured increase 15 ft behind the bike was +10 dB from stock to V&H Ovals.
- On my 07 EG classic, the measured increase was +3 dB from stock to Supertrapp SEs.
Both were done with "A" weighting at fast idle.

In this case, the combination of frequencies present probably makes it seem like more than just a 3 dB difference.

RE: SuperTrapp slipons. My opinion
When I mentioned two piece mufflers in my last post, I meant mufflers with end caps or tips: fish tails, shark fins, billeted, turn downs, etc.
As far the Supertrapp SE's being 3 decibels over stock, I was told that the measurement was taken at Idle. If the Supertrapp SE's are the same as my Screamn' Eagles, they do get loud & will bark when you twist the throttle out on the high way.

This is taken from SAE J1287, which document covers the sound pressure level measurement.
Definitions:
Rated Engine Speed--The engine speed in revolutions per minute at which the engine delivers its maximum Net Brake Power as defined in SAE J1349, as determined by the manufacturer.
6. Procedure
6.1 A rider shall sit astride the motorcycle in normal riding position with both feet on the ground. If this is not possible because of the seat height of the motorcycle, and for three-wheeled motorcycles, the rider shall sit in the normal riding position with one or both feet on the footrests. If necessary, an assistant may hold the motorcycle by the forks, front wheel, or handlebars so that it is stationary with its longitudinal plane of symmetry vertical. In the alternative, the rider may use a box, rock, or other object to rest his feet upon to steady the motorcycle, as long as the motorcycle longitudinal plane of symmetry is vertical and stationary.
The rider shall run the engine with the gearbox in neutral at a speed equal to one-half of the rated engine speed.
They then go on to specify microphone placement, etc.
Half the max-torque engine speed? H-D makes their claim at 3500 for the max torque value for the past two years on the touring line, but no claims for max horsepower, so the measurement would be at 1750 steady, no load?
