I have a 2008 Ultra and am going to change out the stock air cleaner with a high flow K & N model. I'm also planning on adding a Power Commander fuel module. Has anyone done this keeping the stock pipes? I'm looking to have the engine run cooler and I don't realler care about changing the sound. Thanks for the help. Rick (super newbie).

PS What do you think of AMSoil? I like what I've read.

 

I don't think there is any real point in spending the money on a different intake if you aren't going to change the mufflers....by the way, I don't think K&N has their intake for 08 models available yet due to the larger throttlebody size on the 08s. The PCIII might still help cool it down, others here might have better advice on that.

 

I did the PCIII only for while on my 07. It ran noticable better and much cooler. The way it should be. I than did the K&N 3909 and Rush slip ons with the Fuelmoto canned map for that set-up. All I can say is WOW.

 

Changing to a low restriction AC will allow the pipes to flow to their potential. IF the pipes are the limiting factor (eg, extremely restrictive) the air filter will have little effect. Most of the time, however, the AC change will improve flow at least a bit. The rule of thumb , before the closed loop system was you needed a reflash or fuel controller on FI units IF you changed the AC. Not if you just changed the mufflers or pipes. Reason? The air flow volume is controlled by the intake, NOT the exhaust.

If you're just lookin' for cool & quiet, & are satisfied with the power, go with just the K&N filter element & a Power Commander. That's the way I'm currently runnin' my '07 RG. Cooled off the motor, kept it quiet, can be removed for service (in case the dealer is picky about warranty), reasonable cost, & the map can be changed when the warranty is up & I decide to unleash a few more ponies.

 

Unfortunately there is no highflow kit available for the 08's. K&N is stating sometime by January. Ness is stating sometime late December. Dont know about SE.

 

You can get the Stage 1 kit (29260-08) and use a K&N filter. I just got that done at the dealership with my 1K service.

pre tell what the part number is of the K&N filter that they used? The hole pattern shouldn't line up. I wonder if they drilled new holes in the metal center of the filter. If you have a receipt with a part number that would be cool. Thanks. This is what I get when I type it in on the K&N site
