It works great, I even use it on my cop seat.

How important is it to keep the shocks at pressure if you ride solo?
I don't worry to much about them solo unless I am on a rough road

Helmet- $150.00, Gloves,$35.00,Sun glasses$50.00, Motorcycle $21,000.00. The right tool for the job.... PRICELESS!!!

You can make something a little less expensive work... butto me it isn't worth theenergy, time or $10 I might save.

Well if you just duff along you'll probably be OK, but the bike will wallow in turns and drag hard parts easier. It will handle completely differently. I like to have mine on the firm/high side, but my other ride is a sport bike and I ride the Ultra fairly aggressively. I leave my pump in the saddle bag so that I can adjust the pressure depending on the roads I'm doing. Sometimes a little lower pressure on the interstate and sometimes a little higher pressure for better handling and ground clearanceif I'm doing mountain roads. I also always add pressure when my wife's on the back.

EDIT: Here are my favorite posts on this thread so far.

Thank god Harley came up with this space aged device

[brewdog]The HD model has a built in gauge and relief to adjust the pressure.

[SGDude]I was going to use a bicycle pump too, but then I looked at the HD one, which you should be able to get for about $30, and noticed the fine gradients and relief valve.

[hd2007]It has a special end that does not allow air to escape when you remove it from the bike , without it you WILL NOT get accurate pressure.
Buy the right tool its worth it.

[bulldogmoe]the one from HD is highly recommended. it can add air in small amounts. it has a gauge on it, a bike pump doesnt.

[prc1333]I would recommend you buy one from HD. It is worth the money to have something that will travel, is light and also has a button to release air, easily and accurately. Bicycles today have smaller fittings than you need and if the bicycle one is worth anything it is 5 times the size and 19 times the weight.

[IronLegend]I would suggest buying the Harley pump as it's made for this particular application, probably a one-time purchase item and I can air-up the shocks easily sans removing the hardbags.

Whoa, hold on. Something with a HD logo and it is not made in the USA...

[corgi]I just broke down and bought the Harley one(15% off). I was using my kids bicycle one, however wanted one for the road. The good news is that its not made in China...It made in Taiwan. I don't mind Taiwan since their a thorn in China's side.(sorry a litle off topic)

[NCCopBikeRider]Works Performance makes the one HD Sells

I'm a strong guy and just can't stop myself at the correct pressure

[cogener8]When these guys are talking about bicycle pumps they are talking about bicycle shock pumps not tire pumps. I have one for my mountain bike and would not reccomend using one for your motorcycle. Most are designed to pump up to much higher pressures than you need. My bike pump goes up to 300 lbs. I really would not trust it at the 20 to 35 lb range on a motorcycle. I spent the money on the harley pump and am well satisfied. By the way the bike shock pumps sell for about the same money as the harley pump.

================================================== ===============================

MSRP: $43.95 Part # 54630-03A
Suspension Air Pump

This pump was designed to allow safe and simple adjustment of the front and rear air suspension on Touring motorcycles. Unlike a bicycle pump or a fuel station air hose, the hand operated pump with controllable "micro bleed" valve allows precise adjustment to air volume, and the "no loss" air connector maintains shock pressure when the fitting is removed. The 4.5" swivel air hose simplifies valve stem attachment. The aluminum housing is compact, lightweight and durable, and fits easily into your bag for"on-the-road" adjustments. The high quality 0-60 psi gauge ensures accurate air pressure.

================================================== =====================================

Here are some options for a suspension air pump which is the same thing being sold by Harley.

The day I hand over $43 for something I can buy for less and with better quality just because it has a logo on it... c'mon people.

For me, I'll shop around and save some money on somethings so I can spend more on others.

I wouldn't use an air compressor ... no way, Jose. You can get a hand pump at a local bicycle shop for about $10. Works like a charm.

If necessary to use an air compressor, bleed pressure fromthe tank with thepower off until the pressure is low enough to use the hose/regulator safely.Use common sense and it will work fine.
