Rinehart TDs - too loud?
I know this has been covered before (I've done lots of searches), but before I pull the trigger on Rineharts, SERT and dyno tuning, I want to hear from you folks about whether their Rinehart TDs are too loud. I have an '08 Screamin Eagle Road King with the 110 ci engine. I had D&D Fatcats on my last bike, an '05 Ultra, and I didn't find those objectionable, but they were certainly right on the ragged edge!
All opinions regarding sound, performance and quality would be greatly appreciated. [sm=smiley2.gif]

RE: Rinehart TDs - too loud?
today, I hadthe rinehart true duals with the regular baffle that comes in them( and relatedpower commander and high flow air)put on my 07 roadglide. I was running the stock exhaust.
Perfect volume for me. They rumble at idle, purr at highway speed ( easy to hear the radio) and rap loud when you jump on the gas.As soon as I started the bike I could feel the 96 incher was ready to go you can feel it in the seat.
Lots more torque. My roadglide will pullfrom under 2000 rpm.and will go from 20 mph to 70mph ina blink. I'd call it a very refined sound. Low rumble and not ragged at allbut the coolest part is when you crack open the throttle. Coming up to speed on the entrace ramp to a highway, or passing someone on the highway is great fun and lots of noise.
I think the extra money for the true dual (stepped header pipe) is worth the extra cash. and normal riding around town is not loud at all

A little on the wimpy side for my taste, I've had my Rinehart TD's on for about 200 miles now and their not my cup of tea, no attitude. According to Rinehart their max noise level is 104db with the standard baffles, a little quieter with the performance and quiet baffles. I'm going to sell mine and go with a V&H dresser dual head pipes and Thunderheader slip ons. My advice is to go with the V&H dresser head pipes because then you can put any body's slip on mufflers on them. When you get the Rine's TDyour stuck with them. (larger head pipe) no one else's slip ons will fit.
On another note, I listened to at least 30 different bikes with the TD's on them and every one sounded different.

Thanks for the info - that's great. I love the looks of the Rineharts, and I've heard plenty of 'em on OTHER people's bikes, but I haven't ridden one. I agree: they sound great at idle, and in a drive-by they sound cool. I don't know what they're like on the highway at cruising speeds, but you've just answered my question. Thanks bro.

Thanks for your info too - they're interesting facts you've got there. 104 dB is loud enough for me, but not excessive. I understand if you want a bit more attitude. At a gas station a few months ago, a Fatboy with the 80" EVO and straight pipes had that really low speed, unevenrumbling idle. When I say rumble, I mean earthquake rumble. It made my D&D Fatcats sound like mouse farts! But as good as they sound out in the open desert, I couldn't imagine riding through my neighborhood at 6:00am on a Sunday morning. They'd send out a lynching mob!

RE: Rinehart TDs - too loud?
Have had my Rinehart true duals for 500 miles now on my 08 Ultra with stage II 103 kit with what I was told was the "medium" volume baffle. At first I thought it sounded pretty good; good volume, but nothing that would really rile up the neighbors (that's a good thing). I was used to louder pipes on my Roadstar. But after maybe 300 miles, they were definitely louder and throatier (ok, prolly not a real word). To me, they sound better, and jare ust on the right side of nearly raising eyebrows in the neighborhood. I love 'em!

RE: Rinehart TDs - too loud?
I also have a set of Rinehart True Duals on my 07 Ultra with 103" stageII, and they have a a deep sound and actually aren't very loud at all unless you really get into the throttle pretty hard. I got my Rineharts because of the looks and sound, but some people want every lil bit of power that they can get out of their bike. If your going for the look and sound, then the Rineharts will be just what your looking for, but if you want every bit of power available then I would suggest a good 2 into 1 system such as a D&D. The Rineharts are a good performing true dual setup, BUT,..... no dual pipe setup will perform as well as a good 2 into 1 setup. But with a 110" S/E motor power isnt going to be a problem fo ryou anyway,..........LOL
