Default roller rockers

Any need for roller rockers on a HQ 575 cam and 103 engine? I think they are not necessary until 650 lift, yes/no? If not necessary, what would be a benefit?

I'm thinking they are not needed simply because they are not listed as an option on the HQ website for the Sport-Touring 103" package.

Benefit would be less valve stem wear and possibly quieter operation. Downside is cost.

Philm always told me his roller rockers were a lot louder than stock rockers [sm=confused06.gif]Doug at HQ reccomened not using them on the HQ0039 cams also when I talked to him. I have them on my 440 Charger, crane golds but that motor raises so much hell I wouldn't hear them any way!

I had them with a Woods TW5G at .575 lift and were reccomended at the time. They definitely were noisier than stock. I wouldn't use them again for at least that lift size.

It doesn't surprise me they would be recommended for Woods cams. They typically have much more aggressive ramps than other cams, which is why they are typically noiser than most cams. With that noise comes some outstanding performance though.

I could be wrong on Rollers making less noise. My Dad runs them on his 106", but it is running an Andrews 37G which is pretty conservative for the rest of that motor. His valve train is very quiet.

Doug at HQ did not recommend them for my 103 build with his 033G cams soI never used them. This is my 4th build thru them (HQ) and he hasn't steered me wrong yet...
