i put on 16 apes on my fatboy old fatboy. get the 1"1/4 for the good looks. I bought my bars and the wires and ran them my self. Not hard, and the sell the braided cables and bar kits on ebay. thats where i bought mine. paid like 500 for everything.

 

I like the way apes look on the SG or EG (in my case), otherwise I wouldn't have traded my custom chopper for this bike. These set up just above the edge of teh batwing and give it a nice custom appearance, without being too gaudy. Most people don't notice until they look at the bike for a second or two (then I hear "oh, those aren't the stock handle bars, are they?"

Got a hell of a deal for a EG that is set up real nice.

Hey cwilks, there ya go for the look of black apes on your bike. I told you they would look good.

BTW courage, those bars look sharp. Nothing is as comfortable (TO ME) as apes. Plus, it helps keep the pits dry on those hot summer days... I'm just sayin'...

 

I've got the 16's on mine and just did another one this past weekend. I used the Novello extensions on mine and wish I hadn't like another said the splices all end up in the same place and can pull apart, On the last one all I did was to cut 12" pieces of wire, and stagger the solder joints by about an inch each and the wires pulled through much smoother. On the cables +8" is what you'll need.

Handling wise, I ride pretty hard and have not had any adverse affects on either high speed highway riding or in the twisties. The only change is IF you do drop the bike you won;t have the same leverage to pick her back up.

What size ape hangers are on that street glide

 

The ones on Nicks bike look like 16" Cyclesmith. I have 13" on my 05 Classic and used +6 on all cables and brake lines. You'll need +9 for 16" Cyclesmith plus wire extenions. I bought all mine from Hill Country Customs of e-bay three years ago for 500 bux.

I have the 13" Cyclesmith Apes on my bagger. They are one of the best mods that I have done to it. Very comfortable. It keeps your arms shoulder level instead of your arms on a decline. Sometimes I wish I would have gone bigger but these are just fine...for now, they are for sale if you want them
I've had them for about 3 years and need a change. Pretty easy DIY.

Oh yeah, I just went to my local HD dealership and told them what bars I was going to go with and they got everything that I was going to need.

Didn't change the way the bike rode one bit. And my bike is lowered front and back.
