Default Tell me why NOT to buy this bike (07 Ultra)

I'm in the middle of negotiating a deal for an 07 Ultra. I should close the deal later this weekend or early next week. Getting an 08 is my fallback but the dealer is willing to work some miracles for me since I am helping him clear the sales floor of his last 07. Not having to contend with the O2 sensors is a plus but I admit I'd prefer to get the 6 gal tank.

Anyway, I've ooohed and ahhhed over all the bells and whistles. What I really need to know are all the negatives associated with the bike.

Here's what I think I know based on the limited research I have done to date: [ul][*]5th gear whines like my ex[*]The bike runs stupid hot until you get the Stage I download/SERT or use a PCIII.[/ul]I'm betting the heat issue won't be any worse than my 06 Springer before I installed the SERT. Not sure what to expect with the gear noise though.

Any other consistent negative trends? And last question.....anyone making a lot of use of their extended warranty? By default I buy the standard warranty only and GAP ins. I've never needed extended warranty coverage for any vehicle. Had a couple big ticket recalls but those were warranty independent.

Thanks.

'07 & '08 have the same basic running gear (both have O2's) and the basic same problems - IDS is standard in the '08's (thats a plus) and a 6 gal tank (the extra gal is nice but they could have made a better looking tank doing it) - Wireless controls ?

Extended warranty???? It's like insurance... Ya hope ya never have to use it - but it's nice having if ya ever have too...

I may have misheard but I thought they put O2 sensors in the 06's, pulled them in 07, and then put them back in 08.

I knew the 08's had the "fly by wire" setup. I'm used to throttle cables so I can't say that's a feature I need to have.

I believe '06 Dynas have O2 sensors, and I know all '07's have them. There is not a thing wrong with buying an '07. If you're getting a good deal on it and it's what you want, go for it.

Respectfully,

I think that there is an awful lot of paranoia around some potential problems with 07's. If you read these boards too much you will be convinced that the bikes are a rolling hunk of junk --and they are not.

I will tell you that Harleys will keep going when other bikes break. If it's under warranty HD will fix it.

I know plenty of riders that don't have stage 1 and the bikes run great. Lots of 07s that have no problems with transmissions.

My advice: Get the best that you can afford so you won't be kicking yourself later and ride the hell out of it.

Good luck Bro.

Very happy with my 07, has stage 1, rush pipes, no hotter than other baggers I've owned ( less with stage 1). No issues with tranny. Mine is a Classic, would have got the UC but couldn't pass up the deal I got....go for it.

I here ya and agree 100% about the paranoia and web forums. It seems problems and quirks make it to print way more often then good reviews. I've got two Sporty's and a Springer and between the two boards there are regularly posts about stuff that doesn't work and why that stuff and dealers and accessory vendors suck. If I believed it all I'd sell my bikes and never ride again. But I digress.

Knowing that a lot of the rhetoric about the 07's was blown out of proportion was my basis for this thread. I'm pretty well sold so nothing will talk me out of the deal. I'm just looking for a heads-up for any big items to be aware of.

On the IDS, that's standard on the 08's, right? How much is the part for the 07? ..................EDIT: $305
