Anybody running new Michelin tires Harley is selling?

RE: Anybody running new Michelin tires Harley is selling?
My electraglide is on its second set of Michelin tires now. \\; The first rear tire I've had that broke 10k miles...I got just under 11k out of it. \\;
My newer roadglide had the Elite III's on it when I bought it, so I've gotten a good bit of experience with them now too. \\; The Michelins are a better tire in my opinion and when these E-3's wear out in the next couple months, I will be putting Michelin Commanders on this bike as well.
I've run Dunlop E-3's, Elite II's, D-402's + Continental Milestones and the Michelins....The commanders beat all comers in my experience and I believe I'll be sticking with them permanently now that my local HD dealer sells and stocks them.

My local Service Manager told me that their shop had been instructed by Michelin \\;\\\\\\;to put tubes in the Commanders to help with getting the tire to seat on the rim. This supposedly due to flexible sidewalls. They also said Michelin was aware of and working on the problem. Since I have not heard or read of this anywhere else I have to wonder what is going on. When my Avon Venoms need to be replaced I will investigate all my options. BTW, I have been pleased with the Avon Venom X tires on my Ultra, but I can only compare them to the OEM Dunlops. Vast improvement there........

Only thing I heard is they have much more flex in the sidewall, the servive manger thought this was not good if you had a flat. Any opinions on this?

jl: \\; I would ask the SM for Michelin's instructions in writing! \\; IMO, and 211Chuck can correct me if I'm wrong, but having a hard time seating a tire is usually due to stiff sidewalls. \\; The Indy that mounted mine made several comments on the stiffness\\; and a couple hours out in the sun made the install much easier.
 \\;
FWIW, I'm just shy of 5,000 miles on my Commanders and there's still over 5/32nds of tread left in the center.(Rear) \\; Regardless of whether I get the same mileage as the Dunlops did, these Michelins are the best handling tires I've ever ridden. \\; And as others have stated, proper inflation pressures are extremely important!

The sidewalls are very soft,thats what gives the
plush ride. They are hard to get seated on the
bead because it is hard to get them to take air
and seal on the bead. Not because their stiff..
 \\;
I've mounted about 12 sets between my customers
and my bike, if I can answer any questions for anyone
my Shop/Cell is 704-236-2885

Good Luck and ride SAFE"

So do you mount them with tubes as suggested earlier?

RE: Anybody running new Michelin tires Harley is selling?
So far, with 26,000 on my 07 FLHTC, I have just installed my 3rd rear tire. (I figure around 12,000 for the rear.) I am still on my second front, and it has lots of tread left on it. I am using OEM Dunlops. However, here's a side note, whenever I change my tires, while the rim is already off AND for safety reasons, I change the brake pads whether they need changing or not. (I am using Lyndall Z Pads.)

RE: Anybody running new Michelin tires Harley is selling?
FWIW\\; I mounted two new Michelin Commanders on my 1995 Ultra Classic back in November 2007. To date the tires have 6,065 miles on them without any issues. I run 38PSI/front and 40PSI/rear while riding solo and increase each tire by 2PSI when two-up. In addition I install www.ride-on.com in each tire. Visually, they appear to have another 6-8,000 miles left on 'em.
