255s or other cam in a 103ci?
I have the 207 police model electraglide. It comes standard with the 103ci motor. compression is 9:6 and a recall allows for compression release heads to be installed. Most HD techs in this area are telling me that it does not come with 255 cams but probably something much milder. I am doing a stage one with A/C and either Rinehart or Vance and Hines slip ons. I will add true duals later. I am leaning toward installing the 2555 cam. I do most of my riding between 2500 and 4000 rpm. So I don't need cams that come on at 5000 rpm. I won't be drag racing, but I like a kick in the range that I described. Will the 255 make me happy or should I look at something else. I should point out that I know there are better aftermarket cams such as woods, andrews, headquarters etc. I want to stay with HD cams because of warranty issues. SO what should I look at in HD cams???? all insight is appreciated.

Next time your are the dealership ask the parts guy for the 2007 Police model parts book, go to the page with the cams and check the part numbers. Compare those part numbers with the part numbers in the SE parts catalog for the 255 cams and others. You may find the part numbers from the 2007 Police parts book match an SE cam. At least you'd know one way or the other. My experience with my '04 FLHTPI at several metro Atlanta dealerships is that the parts folks and techs no very little about police model bikes except how to civilianize them for sale to the public.

just installed the stage II 103" kit w/255's in my 2008 Ultra classic amd I am vey pleased with the results, very strong (torquey) in the range you are looking for, everybody said it will fall on it's face after 3500rpm,well I have been to 5000 and up and still waiting for it to fall on it's face, very strong puller now even with 2 up,6th gear up most hills here in the Sierra foothills and just keeps pullin'

RE: 255s or other cam in a 103ci?
I have about 400 mileson my new 103 in the EG so this is my limited experience. My motor has the SE heads and 255 cams along with a D&D Fat Cat, SE air cleaner, and SERT.
The first couple of short rides were to bring the bike up to temp and then let it cool completely. I didn't throw any big rpm's at the motor on these runs. After about 100 miles the motor started to loosen up and it felt like the cams were going to "come on" at about 2700-2800 rpm. I took the bike out last week and when she was good and warm I hit the interstate for about 15 miles. And let me just say right now, it is damn hard to not pull the trigger on that new motor and she what she has..LOL. Anyway, I was doing about 75 or 80 (indicated speed) in 6thwhen a guy changed lanes in front of me so I had to slow down. I slipped her down a gear and when he moved back over I rolled on the fuel. Now, I know this ain't a big 'ol monster motor, but it's a darn sight better than the stock mill. It pulled from 70 to 95 without effort. I hit 6th, grinning like hell, and motored away. After a little bit I took an off ramp and motored the two lane at 60 to 75 for 30 miles.
After lunch, I rode some more two lane and then jumped back on the interstate. I stuck her on 90 and let her run. The motor was happy as a pig in feces at that speed and rpm. No hesitation, no knocking, smooth as glass. I did about 20 miles at that pace and it felt like it could have done that all day long.
In summary, I guess....I have noticed an increase in torque coming off stop lights, starting on inclines, etc, but it really shines on the highway in 3000 plus rpm range. I can't wait until I get 500 on her so I can feel less "guilty" about having fun.

We converted a 2008 Ultra to a trike in 2008. A friend bought a tri glide and upgraded the engine to a 110 CI. I bought his 103 parts for the trike we built and had the 255 cam in it. It already had rhineheart true duals. After adding a race tuner and getting it dynoed it runs great on the top end. Only problem is take off is awful. It has hesitation and acks like it want s to choke off. The harley shop that did the work has tried everything but cannot get the hesitation out. Anybody got any suggestions. It is my wifesw bike and life is hell when the Harley don't run right.
