New member here. Totaled my metric and need to get back on two wheels. Demo'd the Electra Glide a couple years ago and decided it will be my next bike. I think I can pick up a 2006 Classic without any goodiesfor $15,000. Some dealers are trying to sell me a 2005 saying there wasn't any changes to the '06 but I read on the Internet the '06 got a larger alternator, better clutch pull and better speakers.

Also, if 2004 through 2006 are basically the same, I can pick up a nice 2004 Ultra.

The insurance check should clear next week (for the down payment) and I'd like to have a new bike lined up by then. Need a full dressed tourer because my best friend and brother moved to Florida and I live near Detroit. Can anyone say Road Trip!

The 2006 also got an up-dated radio, different tourpack trim, and when you add the sidelights on the tourpack, they wrap to the back. If I remember right 2005 had some valve guide seal issues. I love my 2006 Classic

 

The '06 had numerous upgrades. You already mentioned the reduced clutch pull. Also, vents in the lowers, and new materials called GTX nylon alloy used in the saddlebags and top case, that does not chalk or warp like the previous material, and the top case has two positions for increased passenger room, gaining an inch. Amp output is up to 650 amps, and the lights are new with clear lens and fluted reflectors, for increased lighting (they are great!).

The Harman Kardon stereo was upgraded with capabilities for XM radio, and it's cd player will accept MP3 discs. You can also get a Blue Tooth phone module for hands free usage, so you, too, can be a danger to others while talking on your cellphone.[:'(]

 

If I'm not mistaken, the 06s got better flowing heads, a catylitic converter in the right muffler AND better valve seals. If you want all the changes, email me and I'll send you the 06 Technical PDF on the changes.

Go with the 06. It has alot of upgrades from the 05 and is well worth the difference you might have to pay. If you look at all the 07 complainers on this forum they probably wish they had the 06 !!!

 

06 also got, radio issues,bad injectors &bad motor mounts too

 

Yeah, the '06 has the catalytic element on the right muffler.

Was the '06 the year they took the air shocks out of the front? I know mine doesn't have them.

The only problem I've had with mine at 19,000 miles is a slightly warped front rotor that isn't bad enough to replace under warranty, but bad enough to be annoying.

 

I had a 06 Ultra and now a 07 Classic. I would go back to the 06 for anything....my new 96" 6 speed is the shitzzzzz.....I love it......

Stay with 06 or later because of the upgrades to stereo and bags..etc......I'd look around for a 07...winter coming on and now is when deals can be found...

Not all of them Gunrunner. Mine already had the 25 degree injectors. I havent had one issue with my radio, no fogging gauges, no stalling , no clatters and no wines in the tranny.

 

yep mostly just minor accessories upgrades. Nothing major.
I'd pick the one you like the best and go for it.
As in other post
up grade to the stage one (A/C, download, mufflers)
I added the sert later for beter tuning abilities.
Also upgrade to the better oil pump.
