How many miles can one reasonabley go per day?

RE: How many miles can one reasonabley go per day?
Have done 600+ with the wife a couple of times in about 12 hours with no problems, but wouldn't want to do it day after day. We stopped every 100 miles or so for gas, restroom and to stretch the legs. Word of caution, the first leg you can probably go a lot onger than that, but what it does is start to set you up for fatigue later. I know some guys try to run out a tank of gas before stopping, but I am just to old for that (and too small of a bladder, both me and the wife !)

I did 1265 this summer in 18 hours on my 07 SG. I will admit I did not need to add a quarter to the bed........it was vibrating when I laid down to sleep. 500/600 miles is realistic, but you must be prepared for it. Get a good night sleep, have everything ready to go the night before and DON'T rush.

A lot depends on the conditions. If it's fairly cool with no rain - 500 miles is easy if you're on an interstate. A good touring machine will make it more comfortable and make you want to go farther. This time of year is perfect for those longer rides - have fun - that's the key. When you get tired - rest.

All the Iron Butt riders popped up I see!! While it is an accomplishment to crank off a 1000 plus miles in one day, it is not something you want to try with the future Mrs on the back.Enjoy the ride.....don't make a mission out of it. You over-do it on this big trip, and you may never get her to go on another one with ya.
I did 330 in a day last year on a RK with a 15 yr old with me (his 1st long ride). That was far enough. Ultimately it is up to you, but if at the 300 mile mark she start grumbling, you may want to consider a hotel.

Ride it man!!!!![sm=biker.gif] That's why you bought it, right. They don't call them touring bikes for nothin'. Besides FL's are allergic to trailers.
I've done600 mile days getting across country before, Come on you can do it.[sm=biker2.gif]

I find 500 miles in a car is very tiring for one day. But I don't haveballs or an *** of steel like a lot of my fellow Harley riders. If you are not used to riding it all day then don't do it. Take two days and it will much more enjoyable.

Longest yet is 320 with the wife (leaf peeping up at North Conway). She was not happy the last 50. This winter I am sending my seat out to have it stuffed and reshaped. I could probably do a little more on the stock seat, but not much more. I used to ride at work.....I miss the air ride seat on the road king..
