All H-D'S I have owned have made the noise , since the IDS install I have noticed it is louder, I would not worry about it in the least.

Start motor with clutch in, give throttle 2 quick blips, then the shift into 1st will be butter smooth & virtually silent. No clunk at all.

wonder why the IDS would make a difference? If clutch is in there is no load on the rear.

I had that problem but found that the clutch wasway out of adjustment. After adjusting, I now have to look at the neutrallight to see if it's in gearafter startring. My Sportster ckunks but not the RC.

I always wait for the RPM`s to drop to idle. Then clank it into gear as usual....[:@]

I have always hating that clunking sound since it feels like there is damage ocurring. I learned several years ago to start the scoot in neutral with the clutch engaged. After starting, pull in the clutch and let it idle for about 20 seconds, then shift into 1st gear. This is only necessary during a cold start. When I do this, the shift into first is silent.
