How do you go about shipping your bike overseas, the wife and I have the chance to go to Europe for 3 weeks next summer and we talked about taking the bike, but how long does it take to get it thereand how much out out of my pocket or would we be better off renting one?
Yeah, rent! All of my times back and forth overseas made me very leery of shipping bikes. I can't think of any that didn't get at least some minor damage. Have fun, Germany rules, (beer, food, wine, beer!!) but be ready for all kinds of weather.
Actually have had several friends that've shipped their bikes via Lufthansa - they've had no problems. Nice thing is you KNOW the bike you'll be riding...
Renting will be MUCH CHEAPER, but if money isn't an issue then ship it via air and ride your own bike. Just make sure you have the proper insurance requirements for the countries you will be riding in over there.
we decided on a rental so I contacted a dealer in England and it took a while as we may both speak english we dont speak the same language, I did find out that the bikes cannot leave the country so with the help of my exchange student "daughter" that I called in Hamburg we set up a confernce call with a dealer in Hamburg and as of right now I may have a bike rented or the guy on the phone has got himself a date with her.
