Default Gas Tank Scuff

Ok,

I messed up and let a small friend of mine sit on my black 07 EG.
Upon doing so, their tennis shoe hit the right side of my tank leaving ascuff mark.
I did not think I would have any problem getting it off at the time, but it will not come off.
And of course it has to be right where you look when its on the stand.
I have tried my Harley Gloss, but not working.
Thanks for any help.

Go to Wal-Mart and buy some "Goo-Gone". If it's tennis shoe rubber, it shoud take it off.

Be careful scrubbing on the paint with anything. You`ll make a big spot in the clear-coat if your not careful.
Before you start using different items on your paint, I would recommend you use some cleaner wax first. Then wax it with regular wax. I would bet that should cure the problem without added paint damage...JMO..

Gloss will make the scuff shine if thats what you want but i would first try whatever wax you use (hopefully a good carnuba wax) and microfiber cloth. It works for me on light scuffs. Just don't scrub the area. if that does not work try the clay bar (wal mart or any auto parts store will carry it) or a good cleaner wax as a last resort. Man, if that does not work then you might have more than a scuff mark. Let us know what worked for you.

Harley Scratch and Swirl remover will work. I've rubbed out some
nasty looking scuffs on my black hard bags.

ask a friend in the auto body trade to get you some rubbing compound, and some glaze. The 3M Finesse line is my favorite.

rub out the mark with s soft soft (diaper) cloth, then use the glaze to remove any swirl marks. I use the glaze to remove swirl marks that get in the tank from normal useage.

I use 2000 wet paper and a spray bottle of water to remove scratches, then I compound, glaze, and wax the area. Once you learn this trick you'll use it on all your vehicles.

This will work but wont exactly get rid of the scuff, you just wont be able to see it.

Clean the tank with a paint cleaner like Meguires in preparation for a wax.

Give it 1 or 2 coats of a polymer wax, you kinow the sort that will last for ages, there are loads to choose from but again Meguires do some nice ones.

Then use a good quality carnuaba wax, the solid type with at least 30% carnuaba by volume, and dont get sucked into the 'Contains 100% yellow carnuaba wax' trick. Yes that wax contains carnuaba wax, and all of that is made up of yellow grade 1 carnuaba wax but the amount of carnuaba wax by volume may only be 10%. Give it 2 coats to make sure you havent missed any spots.

You will get a mirror shine and the scuff will have vanished.

The only downside is that you will need to re-apply the carnuaba wax about every month to keep it looking top notch. This dosent bother me since I wax my bike about every 2 weeks anyway. I find that a quick spray with a detailing spray and a light wax dosent take so long as waiting untill it really needs a good going over.

I dont like using T cut or other mark removing products because to get rid of the mark requires removing a minute layer of paint, and next time you get a mark off comes another layer. I'm not saying that there is anything wrong with that I just dont like it. The Meguires paint cleaner is very mild and only cleans off any old wax residues to give a fresh start.

Would you have messed up if you let a big friend sit on your bike?
