Thanks guys. I didn't crack the manual for this, what I thought would be, simple straight forward job.......DOH. I did not shim the lever so I am sure I FUBAR'd the switch. The break light is working but the cruise won't stay engaged so I obviously still have an issue. I will tear it down this weekend.

When will I learn....

Thanks again for the help,
RJ

ORIGINAL: Harleypingman

RJ: How are you coming with the brake switch? For the brake light circuit to be open (and allow the cruise to work and turn off the brake light), the switch needs to be able to fully open which means the button under the rubber boot needs to fully extend out of the switch housing towards the lever.
Think you have that basakwards. For example when the button breaks the switch is extended towards the lever and the light is lit, cruise will not activate because the brake light is lit (applied) . Just look at the switch when you squeeze the lever.

I have a feeling that if you shimmed the switch over 1/16" (originally done w/ the brass clip)you will find everything will work. I'd work with that switch until you absolutely know it's bad. I hear they are a PIA to replace.

Yep, you broke the switch off. $20 bucks for the part, some heat shrink and a soldering iron will have ya going again.
